What Are Considered Valid ARIN Requirements For Extra Ips?

In other words what is the easiest way to get extra IPs on a host for purposes such as SEO. What are some valid reasonings I could give?

how many IPs do u need? tell them its for nameservers, but you cant of course ask for outrageous numbers.. maybe 10-15.

Hey Magg,

I should of stated that in the intial post. I am aiming for 61 IP addresses over at ServerMatrix. You seem to know your stuff (as noted in other threads), so what reasoning would SM accept for this number of IPs (I realise it is a lot) that is why I wanted to get everyone's opinion before submitting a reason and than being declined.

Are you making a new server order, or trying to add to a current one?

Odin 01-08-2005 06:25 PM

It is a new server order. Thanks for the help btw Magg.

Are they asking for a reason, or are you just preparing?

For a reason, dunno, tell them that you have a lot of business clients and each one needs dedicated IPs, as they have multiple order sites which each use SSL. (tell em you have 20 sites which need IPs for SSL certs)

Then say you are running 20 nameserver groups on that server (this accounts for 40 IPs) for virtual and dedicated server clients as a way to provide offsite dns.

Dunno, thats some ways..

All my sites are on unique IPs. I just tell them how many IPs I need when I order the server, have never had any trouble.

I have been asked why, and I answer that search engines index sites by IP address, not domain name, and so I need a unique IP for every site. They always buy it. Of course, it's also true, that IS why I do it.

It used to be true anyway. I haven't verified that in a couple of years now. But it's still good BS.

You could say you're running a bunch of SSL servers on different domains. I don't know about getting 61 IPs though...

Tell them you're setting up a bunch of secure servers

Thanks for the advice everyone. I've sent my order as Magg suggested and reading through arin.net it should be suitable.
