Help! Installing new GF card!

I am about to install a new graphics card to my desktop (GeForce FX 5500 OC 256MB AGP)

What do I need to prepare for the install to be smooth?

Any geeks here to help out?

:helpme

Here's a tip.

Stop boasting about your graphics card and just install the fucker as per the instructions.

You're as bad as when Cahek made the post "how do I get hold of Kazaa?"(knowing full well how to do it, if he didn't already have it) along with a list of all the "cool" tunes he wanted to dl4free, so that we could all know how good his taste in music was.

hahaha I couldn't have said it better. Oystein, basically the way it works is this...

1. turn off the machine
2. take the old graphics card out, put the new card in the slot.
3. Turn the machine back on.
4. Install the driver.

Turn off computer.
Find slot that card fits into. Most likely an AGP port.
Remove current card, if there is already one there.
Shove card into said spot.
Turn on computer.
If stuff looks funny, install driver and restart computer (if necessary to restart).

Let me know if this isn't clear enogh.

Hey, you're not allowed to post the same wise-ass shit I'm posting at the same time. :winkwink:

OY 01-08-2005 08:04 PM

LOL fuckers....

Ok ok, I get the point. However, the first sentence in the "how to" manual bothers me, hence my post. It says that I need to remove the current drivers BEFORE I install the new one - and that does not make sense to me.

Shit, guess i need to geek out more often like the old days.

To re-phrase my initial Q - anything SPECIAL I should look out for when switching card?

Sosa 01-08-2005 08:21 PM

heh, remove the case, remove old video card, put new video card in, screw card in, put case back on, boot your fucking computer up, install lateste drivers from nvidia.com

please paypal $32 to me

OY 01-08-2005 08:44 PM

You all SUCK.

None of your advice helped me out when I almost BROKE OFF the AGP slot to remove the old card. lol - I wouldnt hire ANY of you for tech support. Thats for sure.

Now, new card does NOT look any impressive so far. Text seems blurry and colors are different. So far NO GOOD.

Its official, GFY is good for NOTHING.

Jace 01-08-2005 08:46 PM

i thought you were installing a GirlFriend card

com 01-08-2005 08:46 PM

have you tried installing the new drivers yet?

Roady 01-08-2005 08:46 PM

lol first off get a better gfx card (cuz that 1 is poo )

secondly you can uninstall you old gfx drivers ( get new ones first ) just turn pc off after uninstall then put new card in and after it boots up just install new drivers :pimp

Oystein...first off ...good to see you in Vegas and great job on the Xbiz award.

As for your graphics card install.. now that you have it installed, go to www.Nvidia.com and get the latest drivers and that will fix your text and blurry image issues.

Hope all is well. Talk to you later.

Make sure you uninstall the old drivers first. You usually run into problems if you don't.

Sosa 01-08-2005 08:52 PM

lol you are so fucking funny....

Battuss 01-08-2005 08:56 PM

1. turn off computer
2. yank out the old one
3. jam in the new one
4. turn on computer

OY 01-08-2005 09:12 PM

Normally I would have someone do this for me. Since it is my home PC I did it myself. Almost felt good geeking out a little again. Been a while (lie or no lie?).

KRosh - great seeing you too man. It was a good time. I am still surprised about the TWO awards I got. :thumbsup

Now, back to the blurry text - I did download latest drivers as you said, but it is still blurry. And especially in my Firefox browser (coincidence?) it is not good. Its livable, but not good. I have changed the settings to be like the "old" settings with my old Matrox card... To no avail.

Suggestions? Send the card back and get something else? Any good recommendations?

GFY still suck. The advice of "yank out, push in" only broke off part of my motherboard... LOL

Broke off part of your motherboard? Jesus man, didn't your mom ever tell you not to force things? :1orglaugh

If shit is blurry, it might be some setting on your monitor itself or the cable not being fully secured (screwed in) to the card. Just what I can thing of off the top of my head.

Sosa 01-08-2005 09:28 PM

dude, your a dumbass if you broke part of the motherboard off. Maybe you should have took it to a shop and paid them to put it in for you. It isn't that hard :)

as far as blurry things, what resolution you running and how many colors?

You think I would work in the porn industry if I listened to my mom every time? :winkwink:

Checking cables now, last thing I will do before YANKING the card out and reinstalling the "old one" - I hate the way I see things with this new card.

MrJackMeHoff 01-08-2005 09:34 PM

You already fucked up when you bought the inferior card.. You shoulda went ATI.

Sosa 01-08-2005 09:37 PM

also is it only firefox that it looks weird? maybe it is something with your firefox settings?

just a thought

Hey Oy..from having done this 10X I strongly recommend getting rid of all old drivers. After you uninstall your software, run a registry cleaner (I use FixIt Utilities) and try http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3214.html as well..

Good luck..

Point taken. I should have asked you to buy me a ATI card instead. Not.

Someone just gave me this card saying it was good. WTF do I know...

HOWEVER, I FIXED IT and it looks GREAT right now.

I changed the resolution to 1280 x 1024 and that was ok, but it was not until I changed the screen refresh rate from 75Hertz to 60Hertz it actually got DEAD CLEAR. I am now officially impressed with new card, hence the initial frustration and total lack of help from who I thoughts were tech. geeks on GFY - you are all worthless.

Cards works great now, so this thread is officially over...

Sosa 01-08-2005 09:52 PM
