What's with all this testosterone laden violence bullshit at webmaster conventions?

Why do people insist on demonstrating unproffessional behaviour at such an important industry related gathering?

It's not as if there's not enough stigma attached to it, and there's really no reason to make adult come off as a poorly plotted Fox reality TV show.

The more and more exposure our industry gets the more concerned I am of the general public being privy to this adolesence and raising the level of condemnation that is already there.

Every year I think about going to one of these but it's stuff like this that aid in my decisions not to...

Why can't anyone sort out problems like adults and leave that shit at the door?

Don't make valid points or I will kick your ass.

I think it's for any combination of three reasons:

1) It's a highly sexualized, testosterone laden business we're in. Simple fact of life that sex and violence are, sadly, close cousins.

2) There's an asstonne of money being made. Wherever there's money, there's bound to be people obsessing that someone else is making more than them... jealousy leads to violence. :2 cents:

3) Half of the attendees are cave dwellers that never leave the basement. The bright light in the sky hurts and confuses them, and they lash out in primitive survival instinct. That, plus the fact that they have no clue how to communicate with the rest of the outside world and use the fact that they're outside in the real world as an excuse to act... erm... inappropriately. Having the show in vegas doesn't help with that, either. :winkwink:

actually, the testosterone pumps on the boards, but almost never hits the conventions...

this is why you'll never be elite

you stomp on feet in the crowd while rushing in like a linebacker, in the lines you just fart and blame it on someone else and that quiets them down (or so I found out, I mean hear ;-)

yeah, i agree

i have been to 20+ conventions over the years, and only once have I encountered real violence...and that was cause some fan grabbed a porn stars pussy in the middle of a picture, so her boyfriend broke a bottle of his head...LOL

seriously, there is a lot of pumped up talk behind the keyboards, but when most get in public, it is PURE fun...no matter what beefs there are on here, they rarely come out in public at the conventions....and when they do they are squashed quickly and people move on to the drinking and having fun

No other business has as many unprofessional people. Luckily it is still a very small percentage though.

I would disagree
I used to work in the restaurant and music industry..this industry is nothing like it's reputation of even GFY would suggest
