Some sponsors never built a gallery before starting this biz

It's all ok till they start offering FHGs as promo material. Then you get to see the wonders.

I never paid much attention to picture size on FHGs because everything loads fast at 4Mbps connection. Yet I did notice some of the pictures some of the very well known names in this biz use are really large. Barely fitting in to my 1200x1024 screen. Let's check the actual size then... ohlala...

Up to 400kB!!!

Unbefuckinglievable!

I sent them an email, let them know. I got no response. So much for that. No "Thanks, we will correct the problem", nada. Today I ran on another sponsor, same problem.

I guess picture quality and size is more important than browsing experience. Or these guys never heard of resizing the images? They are all shooting very well known exclusive inhouse material and I guess material goes straight from their digital cameras to the galleries, no compressing, no resizing.

That sure guarantees an original super quality. Gotta admit that. At 4Mbps what more could you want :thumbsup

There was no such thing as a FHG when most of the sponsors started in this business ;)

McSpike 01-13-2005 02:56 PM

khaha, yes I guess that must be it! :1orglaugh

I'm running on a 1900x1200 23" display and I hate tiny or blurry compressed pics.

I'm a terrible designer, that's why I pay people to do it. I know my limitations.

Free Hosted or not, doesn't seem like they know how to properly make galleries...which was his point. :winkwink:

There weren't even GALLERIES back when I started in 96 :)

Heck, content in most large paysites was lifted off newsgroups back then, lol!

There's a point when "old school" just becomes "old" :winkwink:

heck, I wish everyone was on 4Mbps connection too, but reality is far from that. Same with your screen size. What good does it do to anyone on a dialup (and there are plenty on dialup out there)?

Remember the SlickCash girls?

Didn't even know what some of the most basic of webmaster terms even were.

with 2 sponsors at the same time? sounds like a disease to me or better yet, lack of something. support for one for sure, when you let them know and they don't neither care to respond nor care to correct it.

Both of these guys were photographers first and then became webmasters. If you can call one who lacks the basics of gallerybuilding a webmaster at all. Some photographers are all about quality, quality, quality, but when they start building sites...

i have said it before and i will say it again

every sponsor should have to 1. build and manage a tgp, 2. submit galleries for 2 months, and 3. get 1 single page in the top of yahoo or google, before starting their program
