Any good FREE tool to edit WMV, MPG, and AVI files?

I need to make about 5-6 clips shorter. Any suggestions? :thumbsup

This thread is a couple of months old, but I might as well hijack it:

How the #&%%# do I remove the audio from a bunch of WMV files?
I (finally) found a splitter, but the damn thing won't let you touch audio.
There's a lot of great video editing tools out there (VirtualDub!), but they won't handle WMV files because of restrictions by Microsoft.

Any hints appreciated :)

Thanks. TMPGEnc will read WMV files but will not write them, so it can't touch
the audio without converting the video to MPEG. Thanks though, it's getting closer :)

Good answer, thanks. I have the old version (1.3c) but it crashes when loading WMV files.
When forcefeeding the latest version of VD with WMV files, the warning box hints at the above
version, but if you have something older let me know :)

It's such a simple task, I can't believe it's giving me trouble.

Just go into windows movie maker and import your wmv file , then go to the bar on top and select the CLIP tab and AUDIO , then set to MUTE. very simple and easy..
