Coal (active coal is the direct translation from Swedish, not sure if it works in English) is proven filtration for alcohol. When you make moonshine you run it through a 2-2.5 yard pipe filled with coal 3 times. After that it's like the best vodka.... so I've heard :winkwink:

smack 02-17-2005 11:28 PM

heh. the only thing that makes me wonder is that apperently Jack Daniels is carbon filtered?

maybe they just use shitty charcoal because that shit is nasty. there is no way you're running that throuhg a brita filter and getting wild turkey.

jt420 02-18-2005 12:06 AM

great article and a funny read.

Meta Ridley 02-18-2005 12:07 AM

Just buy good vodka,,, cheaper.

Zerof8 02-18-2005 12:17 AM

Maybe I am skeptical but if a filtering process works then why wouldnt the people who make the vodka do it? I am sure couldnt be so expensive for them that it wouldnt be worth doing so that they could tack an extra $5 or so on the price tag.I guess I'll just have to try it one of these days.

Some people like Jack. They have a pretty good market whether most people like it or not. I like it but then again I have grown up drinking so its probably just like beer, I have aquired a taste for it.

this method wont make 1000$ bottles of vodka
i doubt it will even really work
im sure all it is doing is killing some taste from cheap strong vodka

The charcoal is expensive (not super expensive, but still enough) and only lasts for ~3 filtrations.

I have a brita filter and it never worked too well. I tried pouring tea into it and it still came out brown. I now only drink bottled water :thumbsup

LOL! Naive.... Read where your bottled water is bottled.. most of the time it's bottled from the same source you would have it come from your tap.. You should watch the show "Penn And Tellers Bullshit" on Showtime.. you'll be pretty amazed...

If your water is bottled locally then they don't even have to go by alot of the bottling regulations that alot of other places go through, and even still, the bottling is still never 100% purified...
