Why?

He was the only one there that had the balls to stand up, and say what was wrong with going into Iraq, and how we SHOULD have gone in.

I'm fairly certain that he didn't decide to "resign his post" on his own.. There was open and blatent hostility towards Powell, because he did not agree with the way things were handled in regards to Iraq...
