Whats hot PC wise these days? I want something that won't be replaced tomorrow...

Help direct me... looking for a fairly nice, new desktop
pc w/flat screen monitor, etc.

WalMart doesn't carry anything special...
so any feedback would be appreciated.

Budget? Do you play games?

Rui 03-07-2005 01:19 PM

Depends what you want...but anyway a Athlon 64 3500+ along with 1GB of decent ram & a nforce4 mobo w\ a pci-e card will do wonders :D

baddog 03-07-2005 01:19 PM

You are kidding, right? By the time a product hits the market place it is already on its way to being obsolete.

JSA Matt 03-07-2005 01:21 PM

Amd64 Fx-55 ;)

Pimp Dough 03-07-2005 01:22 PM

well, thats technology for ya... but anyway. im not a big gamer. just looking for something that isn't a huge space hog... and runs @ a decent speed with a good sized hard drive. obviously, the processor is important... the monitor picture is also important for obvious viewing purposes :)

Well.. almost true.

I just invested a few years back on a new topnotch computer and it's still banging today. Just get enough ram and you should be cooking for a long time, I personally got 2gigs and it's sufficient to do anything I want.

However I don't play games, I assume you need the latest videocards and stuff for that.

Ok dont even need a 3500+ for that tho
my suggestion:

Athlon 64 3200+
Gigabyte GA-K8NXP-9
2x512MB PC3200 (based in Samsung tccd chips)
200GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.8
XFX Geforce 6600GT 128MB pci-e

:D

Shoot me a link or two... oh and... I want to stay under a grand. heh! Thats the important part.

Merrioc 03-07-2005 01:34 PM

stay under a grand?!

your not gonna do that and get anything of serious quality, a good video card is $300, another $200-300 for a gig of ram. Your budget is gone half gone and you've not even touched the rest of the components.

Pimp Dough 03-07-2005 01:37 PM

no no no... im looking for a decent package deal with a nice monitor and a decently quick processor... thats about it

Rui 03-07-2005 01:38 PM

Ohh while stuff is cheaper in the US, you will not be able to get what I meantioned under 1 grand, not even without monitor :/

www.newegg.com -> great pricing & company :)

you can build a monster for under $1,200, you pay anything more you get ripped off.

thats totally not what the subject of this topic suggests....

should have known, when u said "wal-mart" doesnt carry anything special... what your asking for isnt anything special, might as well get that setup u see at wal-mart for like 399.99 :1orglaugh

emthree 03-07-2005 01:45 PM

Who the hell buys computers at walmart? lol

I was messing around with dells options cart, and my order came up to $5,500.00
I plan on waiting until 06 to make that order, it will probably drop a grand or so.

Pimp Dough 03-07-2005 01:45 PM

no... im thinking 900-1k... thx though Jimmie the jerkoff!

^^ you obviously don't have a clue...you must be like those guys that say "why does that PC3200 ram costs twice the price? the are the same size" & thinks a MX440 is a good card :1orglaugh

Pimp Dough 03-07-2005 02:22 PM

i have purchased some pc's in my past from WalMart, I will standup and admit that... but they were HP and Compaq computers. nothing shameful about walmart. anyway, im looking for something a little more quick than what they have to offer...

This thread is already outdated.

Matt_WildCash 03-08-2005 01:59 AM

If you play games get a DELL XPS or Alienware 3.6ghz laptop with 800 FSB, 2 gig ram, 60 gig 7200 rpm HD. 256meg graphics card.

I have a DELL XPS and its faster than any desktop you've probalby ever seen. Its not a laptop its LAN gamer but super fast for video processing, games, anything you want.

I was thinking about Dell, need to check them out more thoroughly.

What are your thoughts of Gateway? Their packages are a bit overpriced (for what you get, imo), but what do you all think of Gateway... ?

reynold 03-08-2005 02:42 AM

I like Mac more than PCs.
