Anyone have a TV Tuner card (watch tv) on their computer?

Im going to buy one but can you watch tv and work at the same time? Like resize the tv window and have other windows open? How is the picture quality?

Ya they are great.Had one on every PC I ever owned. Great for getting video files into the PC.

They are good. I recommend the ATI all in wonder

I just hate turning my head having the tv on while im working on the pc. Can you have other windows open and do other tasks when your watching tv?

Have one. I just minimize the window and listen to the news. If it's a story I want to watch I quick-key it back up.

The Haupage for UK people... I t allows you to get digital freeview

I recommend getting the USB model.

Sort of...I've got a 23" inch Dell LCD TV/monitor. Looks like they quit making it but I picked it up around 6 months ago for 900 bucks (on sale).

Do they make a hdtv version ?

quantum-x 03-16-2005 02:20 AM

Three or four things-

1) Get a HARDWARE one. Don't expect USB to handle the intense bandwidth that TV will pass through. Anything on USB will use software for its data transfer, as opposed to hardware, where it's controlled by dedicated hardware. You'll find it's a little more dedicated.

2) If you're outlaying the dollars, don't do it for analogue tv. Get digital and HDTV. You'll love it.

3) I can recommend very highly a TwinHan card. They do satellite, terrestial, cable etc etc.

4) If you can, use http://nate.dynalias.net/DigitalWatch/ it's SUPER software for your card. Super. Does BDA etc, too.

they work great, I have a TV Wonder and just leave it on in a minimized window...doesnt really even slow down the pc

WarChild 03-16-2005 02:37 AM

I had nothing but trouble with two seperate All In Wonder cards. One died in about 9 months, the one I replaced it with in just over 13.

Which model did we get?
I'm thinking of getting Hauppauge WinTV-Go Plus which you can watch dozens of channels at the same time. But I don't know if it's both digital and analog!

People told me to stay away from ATI cards....

SCtyger 01-31-2006 08:28 PM

ATI HDTV Wonder ... works great .. although you will need a nice PC to run smooth.

i have a P4 3.0Ghz HT +1 Gig ram. works great. tried it on my P4 2.4Ghz (non-Hyper Threaded).. didnt work as well.

has both HDTV and normal TV tuner in case you dont have HDTV over the air reception in your area.

I upgraded my computer last month and got one with dual tuners so like stated above, I can watch one show and record a different one at the same damn time which is pretty cool in my book. I got it with win xp media edition which has built in shit that is nice but sometimes the picture freezes... anyhow get a remote too.
