My computer is a piece of shit

This thing keeps shutting off at random intervals. Out of nowhere it just looses all power. Maybe a power supply or something, anyone have any ideas.

Spunky 03-28-2005 09:44 PM

Sounds like it or the processor fan and it's overheating

Makingcoin 03-28-2005 09:46 PM

Any software out there that monitors your computer's temp?

NaughtyRob 03-28-2005 10:25 PM

I had that problem too. I switched to a Mac G5 dual processor at work. I am getting sick of fucking PC's.

gecko 03-28-2005 10:29 PM

Either the power supply or a over heating issue

mardigras 03-28-2005 10:30 PM

Take the cover off for awhile. If it stops doing it then it's overheating.

Slam 03-28-2005 10:41 PM

It might be running low on gas... :)

So that's how they do it! I thought that squeaking was just loose ball bearings on my fan.

how to fix it:

Maybe your computer is actually overheating make sure the location of the
machine is ventilated and, if you think you can manage, screw the thing open
to see if the fans are still working and vacuum clean the inside!

If that fails you might have to check the bios settings..
start your computer and during the black startup screen there are instructions
on how to enter the bios (probable the DEL button or a function key)
Enter bios setting and adjust the temperature levels that trigger the power down of the machine..

Go with the first option first because your machine could be overheating and
this happened quite frequently with me: early warning signs your machine is about to die.

My computer had been doing the same exact shit. Turned out to be a piece of fucking shit PNY video card. It would overheat and my computer would shut down. Then it wouldnt reboot for 10-15 minutes then everything would be fine for a few days. Finally the fucking card died, otherwise I'm not sure I would have ever figured out the problem.

Yep. I had to retire my original hamster last week, it was time for an upgrade, the new one was fed steroids for the first 2 months of his life, comp runs like a dream now.

Kevsh 03-28-2005 11:05 PM

I had a piece of junk, just bought a brand new very powerful machine and it's rebooting automatically. Grrrr. I feel your pain.

SmokeyTheBear 03-28-2005 11:20 PM

could be a few things

power supply
cpu fan
video card
spyware

first get your cpu tested thats easy and the most likely i think.. unless its something you can see like a stopped fan or heat sink is clogged or loose. power fan stopped etc

JSA Matt 03-28-2005 11:38 PM

i've only had this happen one time where it was not a heat issue... it ended up being the power supply. when I took the connection to the mobo off, I saw that 2 pins were burnt up and it was obvious what was causing the power failures :)

Spunky 03-29-2005 07:26 AM

If you can used compressed air to blow that shit out,The bristols on a vacuum cleaner could cause static electricity.make sure the fans are running on the processor..if they are OK most likely your power supply

Basic_man 03-29-2005 07:28 AM

You need to clean up the dirt first !! :D

Stallion 03-29-2005 07:35 AM

My main pc took a crap last week. Something shorted out and took out the motherboard, cpu, memory, power supply, and 3 harddrives.. Luckily I had most everything backed up on another pc..

loverboy 03-29-2005 07:39 AM

you need to do alot of cleaning, make sure your PC is well ventilated.
