Playing with my new toy (PICS)

Got the Canon D20 Friday and here are some pics from our bedroom window.

Need a decent filter and less wide angle lens, will show something else later, but the quality is awesome and it adjusts colour balance any way you need.

Nice camera for the price.

It's a great camera Paul, not as sturdy as my MarkII, but a great camera nevertheless, now go buy some good lenses, L-type, and post some more great photos...

Tim 04-10-2005 06:34 AM

I just got one too - just getting to grips with it.

spideriux 04-10-2005 06:43 AM

Ggot L lenses on the film cameras, but no point for shooting porn on digital.

Shot some pics of our daughter and you can see her skin pores and hair strands, will be fine for porn. :1orglaugh

The color balance thing looks interesting, need the color card for that though. These were too red.

Alex Xe 04-10-2005 07:06 AM

nice foto for start.

Head 04-10-2005 07:08 AM

Pretty nice!!

Paul Markham 04-10-2005 08:08 AM

Lots to learn on this camera though.

Rob 04-10-2005 08:24 AM

Charly, what if one of your children or family members accidently shoot themselves with that thing? Or what if someone catches you off guard and you forgot to lock it away into the safe and accidently shoot you. I've seen it happen hundreds of times and you never get used to it. :(

Cameras are the number 1 source of owned, would you hit it, WTF is this, and Holy Shit pictures on the internet! Do yourself a favor and get rid of that thing before it hurts you or a loved one!

[Charly, I'm just poke'n fun at you for the gun thread from last night...all in fun, brother] :winkwink:

On a side note...NICE FUCKING CAMERA and have fun with it!!! :thumbsup

Basic_man 04-10-2005 08:26 AM

MandyBlake 04-10-2005 09:14 AM

Screaming 04-10-2005 09:15 AM

nice camera dude

RawAlex 04-10-2005 11:06 AM

Almost everything these days is a little "hot" on the red side. In video cameras it is almost painful to look at. Digital is easy to tune and most companies set their defaults to be a little red, as it tends to make things look "warm", which most people mistake for being good. Sony DX video cameras are VERY hot on reds, almost to the point of driving the image to be slightly brown.

My Canon digital camera is the same, heavy on red, softer on blues.

That's why i use a Pana AGDVX100 for videos - for photos is esy, just shoot RAW and convert to your white balance taste :thumbsup

Fantasic. I was hoping a professional photographer with skill, talent and knowledge would come in and give me a hand with the new camera. Teach this dumb arse what to do etc.

You and I can wait for him together.

slipkid 04-10-2005 11:56 AM

Very nice toy, and the property (ranch?) looks great as well.

Homer 04-10-2005 11:57 AM

Our house backs onto a farm. Nice except when the chickens wake you at dawn.

Raw images are like 25 meg.

RawAlex 04-10-2005 12:56 PM

The canon has a nice image quality. Using auto white balance can be a real issue, as you can get uneven results across a set of images (I have one guy that I edit for that does this, and if the camera moves a little, the color balance changes on the fly!). You need to set your white balance at the start and work with it. Please read the manual and learn how to do it.

Even with white balance set correctly, cameras from each manufacture tend to lead to one side or the other. Most of them are a little red to keep the images warm. Take your video or stills and put them on a scope, and you will see just how far off they are. It's pretty funny. Thankfully the are predictable and have similar results across multiple cameras, so you don't have to compensate too much because they are VERY similar.

nice camera :thumbsup

EROTEEK 04-10-2005 01:04 PM

OHHHH, i understand now, you mean the CF CARD, not the CHIP, LOL, anyway, the RAW medium size is about 9 MB, so i can crank up lots of photos on my 4GB Lexars...

naugthygUrL 04-10-2005 04:19 PM

nice one..

wargames 04-10-2005 10:39 PM

Yes we are finding that out, but we can live with it. Easy to change.

Here are two pictures we took of todays girl.

http://www.paulmarkham.com/temp/canon1.jpg

Cropped most of the picture, and color balanced.

http://www.paulmarkham.com/temp/canon2.jpg

Just cropped to the true size. Maybe it has a problem with focusing on close ups. Will work on it.

...hmmm, remember what i told you about the L-glass? that's why...ordinary lenses just cannot resolve 8MP resolution...but than again, there are lots of 20D's that seems to have a back focus problem, just shoot a close up of an ordinary measuring line.. put the line in accentuated perspective, focus on - let's say 20 cm mark, and examine the photo...if you have the 10 cm mark or the 30 cm mark in focus... change the camera...

ADL_JD 04-13-2005 06:31 AM

I just got the Canon Rebel 300d and been having some fun. I am not a photographer by any means but just fun to act like it every once in a while.

I gotta update my Dimage 7 to a nice Canon 8.0.

Paul Markham 04-13-2005 06:37 AM

Thanks Eroteek, not got that bad a Lens on it, a Sigma Pro 24 - 80 but it does not seem that good at focusing.
