You'd think, wouldn't you? I woke up one morning (er early afternoon) and my cable modem wasn't working. I called my ISP to see what the fuck was going on. They said that virus emails were being sent that had my email address in the from field. I had gotten a few bounces to my inbox but after looking at them, it was clear that someone I had emailed had a virus and that virus had inserted my address in the from field and sent the emails.
When I tried to explain how that particular virus worked, the idiot at my ISP told me that what I said was impossible and wanted to let me know that I wasn't in any kind of trouble but that I had a virus and should be using an antivirus on my computer and my connection wouldn't be restored until I had removed the virus from my system.
I hate to pull the certification card but sometimes it's necessary. I asked him if he had any certifications that qualify him for his job and all he would say is that he's been using computers for over 10 years. I let him know that I was an MCSE and explained how to check email headers and how to do a tracert which would clearly show that my machine didn't send the emails. He finally transferred me to someone who knew what they were doing and he apologized for his incompetent co-worker and my connection was back on almost instantly.
