i've never heard of .pro

isn't .pro a restricted domain. I thought you had to be a professional (ie doctor, accountant, lawyer etc) to qualify to own one

To get ICANN approval for the .pro extension, the registry handling it had to say it would be restricted. Now that it's established, they take most anything.
