Just moved to California, Where's a good place for furniture?

I just recently moved Cross Country from NJ to the San Fernando Valley.

Anyone know a good place to buy furniture here? I've been to a few stores and haven't found anything I like.

Thanks

Thanks for the tips. The Valley's Best listing looks good.

Ikea is my favorite for fast and easy stuff like bookshelves and the like.

I think Ikea has a Tax Free Sale April 15th-17th.
So good time to buy large items and not have to pay sales tax. :thumbsup

There's an Ikea in Burbank. Good stuff there. Hooters is a quick walk from there also. :thumbsup

Babagirls 04-13-2005 11:32 AM

walmart for plates and toasters, etc etc (all that petty shit you need)

ikea for decent-priced cool furniture.

(trust me, i've moved 18 times in my life LOL)

Most decent furniture places don't stock shit and you have to wait forever to get it. Go to Ikea and get the essentials. Good stuff and it is cheap too. :thumbsup

Welcome MikeG... You're new to CE? What do you do there?

Oh and let me be the first to say :321GFY go fuck yourself :)

TheJimmy 04-13-2005 11:47 AM

yes, there is a place on Ventura BLVD around the Sherman Oaks area, just west of the galleria by a few blocks....its on the north side of the road, I forget the name but just drove by it the other day...

italian furniture....love it

After our house fire in 2001, we were able to completely furnish our apartment at Burbank's Ikea store for less than $2500. Oh year we got an employee discount too, that helped.

Stay away from Reed's furniture in Agoura. They tried to charge us more for an item after we ordered and paid for it. Other people I know have received furniture arrive damaged and have taken more than 2.5 years to straighten out - so just say NO to Reed's.

Yeah. Go back to NJ where you are safe from quakes.

Jason 04-13-2005 12:49 PM

ikea is your best bet.

If you're into hip modern furniture with some retro accents go furniture hunting on Montana street in Santa Monica. Also try La Brea Boulevard in LA.

Depends on what you are looking for --

If you want nice stuff and dont mind waiting for it or paying a decent chunk for it, I'd suggest you head down towards W Hollywood and do some shopping over off Melrose by the Pacific Design Center.

If you're looking for moderately priced furniture that usually gets delivered in two weeks or less, but is still quite nice, try Crate and Barrel, Restoration Hardware or Z Gallerie.

If you want something you can take home with you, go to IKEA.

we cut down trees and make our own . . . you might notice there are not many trees in your area as a result. You may need to rent a truck and head to the hills

NichePay_Manny 04-13-2005 01:10 PM

TRy IKEA or go down to hollywood western st up and down so cheep .WELCOME!

AlienQ - BANNED FOR LIFE 04-13-2005 01:11 PM

Hey RRRED,

I've actually worked with them for a few years, but from home in NJ.
We've met a few times at some of the old AWE shows.

wtfent 04-13-2005 01:13 PM

I love Ikea. Has everything you need under one roof. Prices are good and furniture is more classy than most expensive places.

MikeG 04-13-2005 01:18 PM

Thanks for all the advice so far.

I've got my work cut out for the rest of the week I think.

After I get the couch and dinning room out of the way. I'll need help tracking down a good place for a tv.

Right now my first choice is:
http://reviews.cnet.com/Hitachi_70VS...-31325036.html

I think i might need to order that one online though. Probably not going to find a good price around here.

Jason 04-13-2005 01:29 PM

hey mike.. forget the Hitachi..

if your going to spend 5k on a tv.. look at the Samsung DLP 61 inch.. crystal clear.. i love it.

Kimmykim 04-13-2005 01:35 PM

Fry's Electronics -- if you're from Jersey, you've probably never been to one, but they'll usually either have the best price or match someone else's best price.

There's one on Canoga just before Victory --

RisqueWritings 04-13-2005 01:37 PM

Z Gallery or Pottery Barn, but that's just preference. Welcome to So Cal!

Red Ezra 04-13-2005 02:24 PM

I suggest you go to Western Blvd in Hollywood - best furniture deals in town - really is a goldmine - I buy stuff for set dressing and such all the time down there - cheap and good looking stuff

I'll have to go check it out myself. I got a buddy in the home theater biz who told me to stay away from Samsung. Something with the way they generate the picture wasn't clear enough. But if you says it's Crystal Clear I'll look at it.

The thing with the Hitachi is that the 70" is huge. I used to have a 61" before I moved and I loved it. But the 70 is a world of difference.

It's really is like going to the movies at home.

Fry's takes their returns and puts them right back on the shelf unexaminied. They SUCK ASS!! Fuck FRY'S!!!

They are only good for cheap DVD's, and NOTHING MORE!

If you want furniture, try IKEA (shit furniture that will break in a year, but the upside is that it's cheap as hell. Ikea is the cheap ass furniture that you see in bad dental offices, or like what you get when you first move out on your own.. or if you're gay. If you have any class, you'll notice that when you walk in, then you'll walk right the fuck out.) Or go to The Great Indoors, just north of the Ikea in the valley. (take the 134 to Victory Blvd going north. Stay on it past the Costco, and it will curve around to the left and the GreatIndoors is in that new complex with BestBuy and Target and all that. The great indoors has shit furniture that will break in 3 or 4 years and is more exensive.

On Lankershim Blvd between Magnolia and Riverside are TONS (like 6) big furniture stores. They all have shit furniture that will last longer.. or sometimes less. Good luck.

And don't go to FRY's at least not the one in Canoga or the one in Burbank.

Paparazzi 04-13-2005 07:15 PM

I love ikea :thumbsup
