Digital camera recommendations?
What do you guys recommend in the $400-500 usd range? Just for my own personal uses, but would like the image quality to be great.

Having owned a few the one thing I'll say is when you look at them see how well they auto focus. A lot of cameras just can't seem to get it quite right and you keep trying and trying to get a clear picture. You will notice this most when you take close ups. If you can find one that has manual and auto focus I'd get that one.

The sony cybershot series... the newest one in the lineup
|
probably the best bang for the buck if you are buying a camera for web work only might be canon digital rebel.
lots of deals on them with a normal zoom attached. i don't own one, but i've looked at the output. terrific saturated color and good flesh tone. and with an SLR you can use pro lighting easy. |
im actually after one as well, useful thread

Also try the search on this board. You will find a ton of these threads talking about the some thing.

I've looked around and read reviews, and I have to agree with Aaron's pick above, the Canon S500.
First, I've had the experience with Sony, that if you purchase anything less than their top-of-the line models, it sin't as good as equally priced models from other companies. Second, Canon have been in the photo business a long, long time. My gf has a non-digital cam from Canon that works great.. I think I'll probably go with that one, I guess I'll pick it up in Montreal though instead of having it shipped to Costa Rica (it might not make it heh). Thanks for everyone's feedback :thumbsup |

get a small sony cybershot
|
For my stills I use the canon rebel E0S-10
For my video footage... Ok it's getting a bit out dated but I swear by the Sony DCR-VX 2000. The thing is built like a sherman tank. (But don't go dropping it to test it out) Good light sensitivity and when I want to give my videos a "REAL AMATEUR" feel. I put the camera on idiot mode and play with the zoom button a few hundered times. All in all.... Easy to use and transport. |
I have the pentax opti 5si and love it, it fits in your pocket and yet is still 5 megapixels. Take awesome pictures
