None of that is necisary. From Linux just type host <domain name>

For windows just type ping <domain name>

Either will resolve the address for you. Using a packet sniffer or network monitor to trace a dns lookup is like using a cannon to light a cigarette.

well in windows(in mycase) if the host is down it still wont show a ip....or maybe its because im having problems with my isps dns server...not sure...

but i just did get host(hostx) and that is exactly what i needed ...man this will be nice!!!

thanks man....

dnslookup would be the windows tool to debug dns.
