Anyone live with a very picky eater?
My boyfriend is the pickiest eater I know. He refuses to eat beef, chicken and pork, he can only eat fish and seafood and vegetarian food because he claims beef and pork give him a headache and it's hard for him to digest it.
Plus he absolutely refuses to freeze food. The most convenient way I do it is to buy a lot of meat and just freeze and defrost before I cook it. But he thinks freezing meat is bad for his health, so he only buys fresh meat every other day or sometimes even everyday and then cook it. I think this is so retarded because it's inconvenient and wastes so much time. Plus he is so health conscious he wants to find out how to buy food directly from the "supplier" instead of the grocery store because he thinks it's fresher this way. Is it just me, or is this a bit much? |
didnt you say he doesnt eat meat, so why is he buying FRESH meat every other day ?

There we go again...

He almost always eat salmon, or other fish like sea bass... just refuses to eat beef... |
He sounds very 'metro'.. i have to admit...
|
It sounds like your basic semi-vegetarian diet. The whole looking for food directly from the "supplier" seems a little odd, but might not be a huge deal if you have little mom and pop fish market in your area. Some of the other issues you've raised about him are more alarming than his food preferences.

same boyfriend that you annoyed to the point of him hitting you?
(don't remember the story clearly, was a while ago) |
Is freezing seafood really harmful though? Perhaps if you freeze it for years, but if you freeze it for 2 months tops, does it change the structure of the food or is it more harmful than eating something not frozen? I have always wondered...

And yeah, I dated a picky eater a long time ago. I love food and want to try everything, so that will never happen again.
|
Sounds like he was spoiled to much as kid. I was just happy I was eating.
Can't stand people like this |
Okay, let's say this picky eater is a NEW guy, not the old one SSP pulled up from the old threads...
New guy... Just a simple question really. No need to dig up old threads. |
...and you're still with someone you aren't compatible with, because...?
|
what's wrong with that you weirdo? sounds like anyone even slightly vego... this isn't the 50's it's not exactly shocking that someone doesn't eat beef chicken or pork.. walk into any room and theres bound to be someone with an identical diet, about 7% of people self identify as whinging vegos, that is they eat fish etc as well, but because they don't eat steak they get called vegetarian.

I have got to be one of the least picky eaters there is. Sure, there are plenty of foods I'm not crazy about, but there are very few foods that I refuse to eat. I can't even think of any off the top of my head.
I love food! |

Phogirl...are you drastically changing your eating habits for him? Do you love filet mignon, but won't eat it because his sensitive ass won't eat red meat? If that's the issue, then just stop going out of your way to accomodate him. I would be understanding to his dietary needs, but not to the point where it disrupts my day or affects the foods I like to eat. It would be up to him to hunt down fresh seafood every day if that's all he insists on eating. |
Frozen fish sucks! Shrimp do well frozen but I get all my food fresh too. I eat beef, pork, chicken and all that shit. The house rule should be whoever cooks gets to pick what you're eating.

dinners with artifical colours and preservatives are bad obviously, but what about just freezing seafood and eating it 2-3 weeks later? Is that harmful? |

I am not a picky eater, I just won't settle for crap food.
|
Anyways, a girl I'm currently dating must be the pickiest eater I've ever come across with. She doesn't like meat, doesn't like fish, only likes SOME veggies, doesn't like pizza, doesn't like ham, etc. etc. etc. It drives me nuts!
I have to respect the fact that she has different eating habits than me though. I don't mind at all, if that would be a problem I'd consider myself a jerk. |
Fresh tastes better. That's why we are always looking for fresh meat! :winkwink:

It would not be possible for me to change my diet. I am basically addicted to steak and burgers, if i stop eating that i would literally die!! lol We just eat and cook whatever we feel, and it's always different what we eat. |
tell your boyfriend to go make love to a cactus... eat what you want to eat

I already eat what I want to eat! I buy my burger, and then he goes to the veggie place to get vegetarian food. I just think it's annoying that he cannot eat anything frozen. It does not affect my eating, I STILL BUY BEEF AND FREEZE IT AND EAT STEAKS! He just refuses to eat it with me and cooks salmon instead. It's not a huge deal, just thought I would make a thread for the hell of it to see about other picky eaters... |

I respect him eating whatever he wants, I just think he is picky. Just as he lets me eat my burgers, although he doesn't like it because he is a health nut. And I just wonder if it really is bad to freeze food or not? Really that's all. |
He can eat anything he wants as long as he buys his own damned food.
|
By the way, I never freeze ANYTHING. I understand you want to freeze meat for financial reasons. I always buy my food fresh, veggies and meat. And I'm not obsessed with my health in this way at all. I don't buy canned veggies because the taste is horrible and most vitamins and minerals have been long gone by the time you open the can.
I remember that my mother used to freeze meat sometimes, but I have never considered doing it myself. Fresh meat is always so much nicer than frozen stuff. I'm sure that if you're able to appreciate a good steak you wouldn't want it to be 3 weeks old before you eat it. |
I lied, I do freeze my Vodka. :)
|
When I was growing up if I was picky I didn't eat..today I like everything

Oh well, if he wants to inconvenience himself it's fine then, I don't care anymore. I just thought he was the only one like this, but I guess you are like this too... lol It's cool though, I respect that. He says the same thing as you do as canned food not having as much vitamins and minerals... |
your boyfriend is an asshole plain and simple, the quicker you realize this.. the better of you will be.

Different people have different eating habits. Here in Holland (and in most of Europe), it's quite normal to buy fresh food on a regular basis. We eat less fastfood than "you Americans" (sorry for generalization). But to each his/her own. As long as you respect it and he respects your eating habits, there should be nothing you have to worry about. |

As a single guy, I buy enough food to last 2-3 weeks typically, while many families do weekly grocery store runs. |

you should wait at the end of the hallway on the second floor.. and when he gets home and gets halfway up the stairs... run and jumpkick him.... and then explain to him that you would prefer if he eats meat

Most fish and shrimp are frozen on the trawlers they are caught on while they are out at sea, shrimp are cooked onboard as well so theres not much you can do about that except catch it yourself or buy off small semi professional deep sea fishermen. He's already eating frozen fish. I would guess that the practicalities of the situation must allow him to loosen some amount of control over such things. I myself am sitting on a beautiful little pearl perch hand caught a month ago by my father.. frozen fish keeps for a good while although it rarely lasts long enough in my house to worry about it.. maybe six months would be a good time period to eat it in. I myself don't eat farmed fish or shrimp but you can't always tell these days. |
