An open prize contest. Guess my rendering time and win!

I'm not sure what I can offer. Maybe a trip to the Bahamas, maybe a pair of my old RedShoes, maybe a scene edit, or a trailer... I'm just not sure yet.

I have a 19 hour segment on my time line. It's not one long movie, but it's 19 hours of individual scenes. I will be rendering in 3 formats which are, 2 wmv speeds and an AVI.

That's all the info I can give you.

The contest is for 2 prizes.
1) guess the total render time.
2) guess the total file size of all the clips combined.

Closest person to the actual amounts wins THE PRIZE!

1 person can win both prizes.

pussyluver 04-28-2005 11:16 PM

a lot of varibles, like computers you're using etc. - actuall machine time or how long it takes you.

here's a guess - 52 hours

Now what will I do with RedShoes? I can always use content though...

Not many people in the contest. post some pics, that'll move things along.

newbreed 04-28-2005 11:16 PM

System specs?

pussyluver 04-28-2005 11:18 PM

depeding on resolution, size and color depth, it could take 20 large SGI machines all weekend just to render 30 seconds of video.

Jace 04-28-2005 11:19 PM

comp specs are a big thing...but i would imagine if you do this full time you have one helluva editing machine...

i would imagine for 19 hours it would take about 6 hours or so

I have a jar of jelly beans. You can't see the size of the jar, and the jelly beans might be 3 inches long (they might not).

How many are in the jar?

You can win my old socks - to go with his shoes!

DA2 04-28-2005 11:47 PM

What are you using to render it?

RedShoe 04-28-2005 11:53 PM

Rui 04-29-2005 02:57 AM

You didn't even listed the hardware specs of the computer(s) you will use for this, hence this is a rather useless guessing "contest"...

bringer 04-29-2005 03:02 AM

41 hours 13minutes

2.7gb

StuBradley 04-29-2005 03:02 AM

Render time will be 27 hours and 53 minutes. Files will be 9.3 Gigs.

:winkwink:

Spartans 04-29-2005 03:29 AM

It's one machine.
It's just a pentium 4 3.06 ghz processor, with 2 gigs of ram. Everything else is just run of the mill. The mother board is an asus generic mother board. The graphics card is just a generic Matrox card with dual monitor capabilities. The only games it has on it are solitare and mine sweeper. Oh also I use a mouse and a keyboard for navigation and input. Other than that it's a straight up simple machine.

I can give this hint though... the reason I thought a contest would be fun is because by my calculations I figure this would take a long time... a lot longer than anyone here has predicted so far.

Adultnet 04-29-2005 09:27 AM

11 hours and 7,200mb

khs 04-29-2005 09:28 AM

117 hours 24.8 gigs

jeffrey 04-29-2005 09:46 AM

100 hours

19 gigs

RedShoe 05-01-2005 02:19 AM

I can see now, why people pay me to do this. You all have grossly miscalculated. LOL I guess I was under the impression that you knew what AVI's were, and how long things take to render.

Anymore guesses? Or shall I stop it and base the prizes on these guesses?

beta-tester 05-01-2005 02:22 AM

My guess 63.2 hours

Manowar 05-01-2005 02:27 AM

48 hours!

I guess you GFY'ers have a lot to learn about encoding. :)

The final results are:
11 days, 5 hours and 34 minutes.(269.5 hours) And it produced 365 gigs of footage.

You were off by 120 hours and 305 gigs, and still won the time portion of the contest. LOL
Congrats.

Email me your address ([email protected]) with "gfy contest winner" in the subject and I'll send you out a prize. (it will be worth you sending me your email)

Just post in here what email address it will come from so someone else doesn't claim your prize. :thumbsup

I'm flattered that you decided to copy my contest idea. It's a good feeling to receive reassurance that I have done something that others liked enough to use it themselves. :)

Yeah. Damn. I thought I gave you credit. My bad. Yes this was indeed inspired by your contest from a while back.

I just remembered who I told, SetTheWorldOnFire...

RedShoe 4/28/2005 10:29 PM it should take 238 hours. (roughly 9 days and 9 hours) give or take a few hours..

RedShoe 4/28/2005 10:30 PM I wonder if I should run a contest on GFY. LOL I remember AaronM doing that once before.

SetTheWorl 4/28/2005 10:30 PM reminds me of it.

DutchTeenCash 05-09-2005 10:15 AM
