Have you noticed GFY is all about trends?

Last year a few big names here admitted that they are into spamming, and then there were 10's of threads from ppl asking how to get into it.

Then 2,3 months ago people started talking about blogs ( although they exist since 5 years or so ) and now every GFY'er starts a blog...

Then Taboo and DomBuyer made a few big threads and now everyone wants to make money with domains, although, especially in this area, the easy money is gone long time ago..

Anyone else noticed that?

Chio The Pirate 05-04-2005 07:52 AM

YARGH! This be true of every business since the beginin' of time. Why would GFY be immune to bandwagon jumpers?

Its still so easy to make money with domains its ludicrous. A chimp could do it with his eyes closed.

The hardest part is not becoming obsessed.

what I mean is that f.e when it comes to spamming or domains, the easy money is probably gone long time ago, and these aren't necessarly the hot trends nowadays.... but people just started talking about them and that made others interested.

But it's not that f.e making money with domains is the hot trend now.

Please refrain from making untrue comments, just for the sake of your status.

Quotes in sigs were trendy. Now dancing bananas are.

slapass 05-04-2005 08:12 AM

I have to admit when I saw sexblog and pornblog were for sale, I thought "blogs are over."

You did not mention the mini bubble in link lists. XXX Jay kept saying how much he was making, and now everybody owns a link list. The key is to know why they are hot. And is it better to wait or is the reason real. I tend to follow these bubbles as the info is right there and easy to access.

I own a blog. I own a linklist(see sig). I have a fake tgp that needs work. I bought 15 domains in the last 3 days. I am BubbleBoy!

polish , this is how the ENTIRE world works .....

Nicky 05-04-2005 08:19 AM

Very true, but to the masses the Blog is still pretty new....

Just think back in 99/00 everyone wanted a tgp.....well, now days too :winkwink:

A lot of people never find that one thing that really works for them so they're always jumping around trying to find the latest get-rich quick strategy. They never realize that there isn't any get-rich quick strategy. Every method of making money takes work and it takes time. You need to learn the game.

So people, here's my advice... stop jumping around, do ONE thing and do it fairly well. Once you have a system established, learn another thing and do that fairly well. Or, stick with the one thing and be the BEST at it. What makes me money isn't necessarily going to make you money, and vice-versa.

swedguy 05-04-2005 11:13 PM

I believe "sheep" is the word you're looking for :)

Hype sells. Sometimes hype is created by smart business men, who know what they're doing and make 10 times more money after newbies/surfers buy the hype (Example of good business men: Lars, Halcyon + Tassy, Dee, DrinkingHard). Other times, hype is created by unwise business men, who have become too comfortable with their success, have over inflated egos, and desperately feel the need to be recognized by their peers. I can always tell who the idiots (unwise business men) are. They are the ones who create competition for themselves in an often closed market and think increased competition will not effect them negatively.

OzMan 05-04-2005 11:30 PM

I have noticed a lot of threads on GFY lately about trends.

I think it could be a trend...

slapass 05-04-2005 11:33 PM

You are missing one of the best things about going with a trend. The tools are there. The first person to do something frequently has to invent the wheel. Being in the pack is easier and carries less risk. Less reward too.
