Pagerank ain't nothing baby

After my recent saddening that my site had dropped off Google's top ten and my pagerank had been reduced to PR1 I am slightly confused.

On MSN my site was always mid 50s, very poor. Suddenly i've shot up to become #2 on all my key terms. Am I doing something right or is MSN just giving google the finger?

who 05-04-2005 10:25 AM

how you've got this far thinking that pagerank has something to do with MSN, I'll never know

Cains 05-04-2005 10:27 AM

I know pagerank has nothing to do with MSN, what i'm saying is it appears very odd that MSN has altered my results so positively when I haven't changed that much and google downgraded me so much

Different SE's have different algorithms. THings that can get you penalized in google will help you out somewhere else.

Cains 05-04-2005 10:38 AM

Yeah true, I am noticing the MSN traffic converts slightly better than google at the moment. Though I'm pissed because google runs AOL UK's search and that was great for affiliate business and escorts

woj 05-04-2005 11:51 AM

It's just coincidence, google/pr have nothing to do with msn

Toonlogos 05-04-2005 01:02 PM

Which gets more traffic, msn or google?

triumph 05-04-2005 01:04 PM

Well, a couple of days ago, MSN had a major update, that's all.

Kevsh 05-04-2005 02:55 PM

MSN can be a bit bizarre but apparently, what sets off yellow (or red) flags with Google won't necessarily on MSN ... and vice versa. So if you made a change recently, apparently MSN approves and Google doesn't. Sorry if it's a lame response but w/o more details ....

pornguy 05-04-2005 02:57 PM

Either way, good for you that MSN improved when you needed it to.

msn gets much more traffic then google
just about everyone's IE opens to msn.com by default

Sosa 05-04-2005 04:09 PM

I get more hits from msn then yahoo and google. Not as productive though

dcortez 05-04-2005 04:39 PM

Yahoo and MSN have been climbing for me as well.

PR (for G) seems to be less directly (although still related) associated with SE traffic. I have seen PR go down on a site, but the traffic remained steady or increased. PR is just one factor in determining who gets to see you in the SERPs.

I had some very awesome keywords coming up in the top 10 on MSN. All of a suddent the traffic fucking stopped. One day it was there. The next there was nothing.

I finally figured out what happened, more than a week later.

...but I'm not tellin'....

MSN is very good traffic but you gotta learn how to play their game.

Dont kid yourself, Google is vastly ahead of the other search engines in terms of popularity and traffic.

Spunky 05-04-2005 08:20 PM

Well it has hurt my traffic a bit getting knocked down a notch

TheSenator 05-04-2005 08:22 PM

Is there a tool to watch keywords on google?

Better yet, one that manages all 3 (Yahoo, MSN, Google)
The basic setup manages keywords on Google only - in order to track MSN/Yahoo you'll need to add a PHP script to your site. It's harmless and no config is necessary ... all in all, an awesome tool and highly recommended.

Oh, yes and FREE.

:winkwink: :pimp
