Blockbuster raising movie pass fee to $34.95
I got it in the mail today. They're going from 29.99 PLUS tax (around $32) to $34.95 PLUS tax (around $38)....I was wondering how they could stay in competition with netflix who doesn't have to pay for all of those buildings and employees...
But on the flip side, Blockbusters selection in their stores are terrible. If somebody decides to keep a DVD, that means that blockbuster won't even replace the fucking DVD! They'll just take the box off of the shelf. What kind of shit is that? Blockbuster is about to die a terrible death. Take my word on it...Their management style is ridiculous and they even had a tiff with one of their main investors, Carl Ichan recently because he doesn't have faith in their management. So I guess I'll only be on this pass for this summer before I move to Netflix...Too bad. |
Blockbuster = done!
2 stores have closed here. And the online thing - forget it, they will be crushed. |
They will be crushed for sure!
|
I don't think they'll be crushed.
I do like netflix's setup, however the one thing they can't compete with is the "impulse" purchase. When you want to watch a movie "tonight" you can't go pick one out on netflix, but you can go to blockbuster. We're a fast food, I want it NOW culture....so for that Blockbuster has the edge. |
Also, another thing about blockbuster.
They are so desperate for buisness now. You guys seen the comercials that says no late fees right? Well there are late fees, there are no late fees if your late like 2 days. After then 2 day they change extra. I agree though, impulse buyers are all them have now. Those comercials are for impulse buyers. |
yahoo will buy netflix and rule the internet

BBV is better than netflix and other web movie places because with bbv movie pass you can go pick out your movie while with netflix and bbv on the net you have a que list, so if your trying to get a tv series like sopranos, you may get season 1 disc 4 before you get disc 1. Plus I like to pic out what I want to watch. Just because there is a horror movie I want to see doesnt mean I will always feel like watching a horror, but I dont really have a choice when thats what they send me, plus you have to get them mailed to you then you have to mail them back.
BBV will be ok because they have been making changes, like Gamerush, so that they can compete in other markets. Plus thier own online rental site, so I think if worst comes to worst they may not control as much of the film industry as they do now, if thats the case then I welcome the change. |

I never liked blockbuster anyway.
Any place that doesn't rent out x rated or even nc-17 movies shouldn't be in business anyway. |
Theres a blockbuster at the end of my street. Guess what? Never been there, lmao!!
I prefer to buy a movie that I think I'll like. If I was gonna rent, I'd want to record it as I watched it anyway. So why bother.. I just buy DVD's. |
they are really sliding down hill

blockbuster online converts very well, paying $ 24 per new customer :)

This thread reminds me of the bubble. Netflix is not going to come out on top of Blockbuster. Much like pets dot com was going to put Petsmart out of business. I love Netflix and get 2 to 3 movies every couple of weeks from em but Blockbuster has too many resources at their disposal, mainly cash.
You guys say they are dying and point out them closing stores but the opposite is true. The main reason their main investor is trying to wrestle control is he is upset that they are spending the cash on building more stores and not issuing dividend checks to the shareholders. Netflix was the first and therefor grabbed the original market share however Blockbuster is catching up fast and don't discount Wal-Mart who has their own subscription service. They are Wal Marts biggest competition, not NetFlix. Netflix will have a limited marketshare compared to the other big players and the current analysts forecasts reflects that. |
Carl Ichan is no joke he has buried many fine corporations who fucked with him.

That's business... blockbuster couldn't care much when they pushed out all the mom and pop video stores when they were setting up franchises everywhere. It's scary but also hopeful for those of us in business. |
Ive been preaching Netflix since day one. I live in michigan and they ship from lansing so i get them like next day. they also have every movie you could possibly want and ive yet to have to wait. 21$ a month for 3 movies at a time. awsome.

But shit man, I rented a movie that was due back in 2 days. I kept it for 2 weeks, it cost me 1.25 extra......that's a pretty sweet deal. For me the movies are an impulse thing mostly.....if I'm bored at 8pm and there's nothing on TV then I go rent a movie. |
