is Video on demand really the "future of the adult internet"?
Its the slogan for the hotmovies affiliate program.
Sounds good in theory, is this the direction things are moving to? Massive sites with 10's of thousands of downloadable movies by studios that don't suck ass? |
VOD seems to work well for those selling VOD software, yet the results from everyone else seem so-so at best...:pimp:

i dont think so...

you mean poorer than expected results for site owners and their affiliates? |
No. VOD can make huge gross revenue but it doesn't make much profit so it really won't take off like paysites/freesites. With VOD you have to do a huge amount of volume to make it worth your while.
You have to pay for the content, the studio, the streaming provider gets a %, the bw, the webmaster, and so on.. Expenses are much higher than running paysites. |
It's another rev source for sure - Don't think its the end all.
VOD is sticky as hell! Once a person buys one, they always come back for more. I had this one guy come back and buy 7 at the same time at 9.88 for 7 day rentals. Easy $$$ IMO. Guess he wanted one a day for a week lol |
VOD has it place just like subscription sites. Different stokes for different folks.

I'm thinking of the long term, say in 5 years+ when dial up ISPs are finally all dead and every surfer can stream movies on a broadband connection. Why would you buy a monthly site membership or even DVDs when you can buy minutes through a PPV theatre that has tens of thousands of quality titles from reputable studios? |

That PPV theatre will likely come from their cable or satelite provider rather then the Internet. Or maybe some sort of hybrid like xtv. |

YARGH! Adult DVD empire has had VOD for a couple of years now... so I'd say it's already here. |
