actually thats a pretty good idea someone sponsors the search function get their banner up when people search. and in exchange they also have to pay the cost to keep it working.

the idea isn't THAT unreasonable, premium version of gfy could be offered, which would feature: a seperate server just for premium members, ability to use search, ability to disable ads, and perhaps few other features...

Many mainstream companies are doing it, there isn't really any reason why gfy couldn't do the same...

maybe if they would install more ram on the sql box, the box would be faster. increase the settings in my.cnf. i think the system admins are out of the loop :)

I have my own private search for GFY :) maybe I could share with everyone but not sure how lensman would like that ??? I wouldn't charge people for it although if Lensmans wants me to I would collect :2 cents: lol :)

I agree. with all the talk on this board about the importance of traffic, it's incredible that they are throwing away all the traffic generated by the GFY community (I am assuming that there are a sizeable number of real users here). What is more valuable to advertisers - professionals in the online biz using GFY search to research partners and competitors, or people posting endless "Would you hit it?" threads to get maximum sig exposure?

I will never understand why they don't buy a throwaway server to handle the search queries. It would cost $500 tops.

Every time search goes down, I visit other boards. It's insane to throw away GFYs traffic like this to try and save a few pennies on hardware... :2 cents:

Im just amazed that an outsourcing company hasnt popped up and offered a one week trial on dedicated employees to conduct searches.

my programmer set this up in a couple minutes.. no need to hire a staff.

If it was alright with GFY i could provide the search function for everyone matter of minutes...
