Tennis Tie Game Rules - 7-6 to win? or does it have to be by 2 points no matter what?

To win a set in tennis do you have to win by 2 points no matter what or will 7 to 6 win the game? Sorry to post this here but me and a friend are at each others throats and this is where I can get the quickest answer :)

Actually after you reach a 6-6 tie, you play a tie-breaker, usually to 7 points, and you must win by two points (i.e., 7-4.7-5, 8-6, 9-7, etc). The tie-breaker is scored as a game, so the final score for the winner would be 7-6.

The USTA (United States Tennis Association) recently has been experimenting with using a 10-point tie-breaker to decide a three set match in lieu of playing out the third set (in other words, if you split sets, instead of playing a 3rd set you instead play a ten point tie-breaker (which must be won by two points). The winning score is recorded as 1-0.

In some of the large pro tournaments (Wimbeldon, etc), if it goes to a fifth set, the players keep playing the fifth set until someone wins by two games. The consequences of this are matches that can drag on for five hours or more.

Check the USTA for more details about rules, etc.
