Man they used to be ironclad. Not anymore. That big outage last month? All my servers were down for several hours. They just gave me the run around about proration, saying I need to provide the EXACT ips and EXACT downtimes. Hell their entire network was down so I figured they knew it and would not give me a hard time over this. No proration for me. I understand hosts have problems and do go down from time to time. but to fight tooth and nail over a guarantee they give jsut puts salt in the wound.

FiReC 05-19-2005 06:33 PM

Their site will not even load for me. I only have like 11 servers there. I guess I will have to go from having three different hosts to only 2 now. I know you get what you pay for, but one expects a company this big to have every detail covered

Spread your servers around to some different companies... you run a business and promises that can't be kept or a sense of "loyalty" doesn't pay the bills...

Rorschach 05-19-2005 06:37 PM

servermatrix sucks balls, their accounting department all need to be taken out and shot.

I have servers with them, candid and phatservers now. The only bulletproof way is to cluster every domain on two servers, each one in a different datacenter. sigh

Choker 05-19-2005 06:42 PM

Fuck, just went from bad to worst. Now I can't even ping any of the servers.

stevo 05-19-2005 06:42 PM

Are you having trouble with Phatservers too right now? I think my sites are down with them, or somethings up with my internet...

zentz 05-19-2005 06:45 PM

i am glad i left them

All my sites are down (no ping or ftp access)... Cant even load Phatservers.com... 2nd time this week! They were down earlier for several hours due to power issues.

diggz 05-19-2005 06:49 PM

This is the first downtime I have experienced with them for the 5 or 6 months I have been a customer. :(

stevo 05-19-2005 06:51 PM

will do, thanks - probably just me :)
i have one complaint with phatservers - their support is too fast! :) does Mike ever sleep?

Michael O 05-19-2005 06:51 PM

I think we are dealing with some major routers being down. My server matrix boxes are back up, my phatserver boxes never went down but they are showing as down from betterbeup which is at server matrix. Confused yet? I sure am

oldnewbie 05-19-2005 06:56 PM

My partner just said that, on your personal internet connection, try entering alternate DNS information. He thinks there is an attack on DNS servers going on right now.

Choker 05-19-2005 07:04 PM

I remember seeing something on tv about there being like 7 servers that if taken down the entire web collapses. Is there any truth to this and if so what servers would this be? Are there servers set up for isps dns?

stevo 05-19-2005 07:05 PM

Everythings loading good now... My boxes have been up for four days so i guess there was no downtime.

Somethings up:

Hey man when's the last time we chatted? Weren't we supposed to talk about something?

diggz 05-19-2005 07:07 PM

looks back to "all good" over here

chadglni 05-19-2005 07:09 PM

It's not the hosts most likely guys. There are definatly DNS issues going around the web and have been for a couple of weeks on and off. I can't browse the internet at all sometimes, only specific sites at other times, but I can always use ICQ etc. Also, if you go ping domains from various services some get them fine, others show them down. It's a clusterfuck and it's screwing up sales.

Juicy D. Links 05-19-2005 07:10 PM

I think those are the root DNS servers (?) for the whole internet, there are 13 of them or something like that... there was a big DDOS a few years ago that took out 7 or so, and it fucked the whole net up for a while.

So those are probably the dns servers for isps? If so it would make sense to me. It's all gotta start somewhere

Ycaza 05-19-2005 07:38 PM

dudes, from your friendly neighborhood network engineer..... Without spamming to say we are great or whatever, there have been 3 things at work on the internet over the last few days. 1, the sober virus, you'd think people would stop opening the stupid emails, 2 the dns cache attack and finally every mothermucker that can is downloading starwars bootlegs. We have been rerouting all day, Have seen so many peering points just stuffed. We have a lotta peers, way more than most and its still a grind. have seen level3 and global crossing and a few others just jammed. the worst is probably not over. Contact me if you want to know how it works.
