My thought on 2257

My thought on 2257

First thing to say is that I am from the UK.

Having not read all the 2257, but picking up what others are saying, it would appear that its going to be extremely difficult to apply by these laws.

In the UK (and many other countries) we have the data protection act. As I go by UK law first, I cannot comply by some of 2257 USA laws.

I do not in truth understand the point of this law. I suspect its a sneaky way to try to ban porn on the net, without affecting the freedom of speech act.

I do not think this will help protect children, in fact probably the opposite. I suspect most webmasters will not host in the USA soon.

I think also one simple method would be to register your site in say the UK, then host in the USA. This way you would appear to be in the UK rather than USA and so make it much harder to trace you to the states.

I wonder how many USA webmasters will bother to comply by this law.

I have also read that 2257 also affects DVD's/films. As such I am not sure if UK films will soon be not allowed to be sold in the USA, or indeed from any other country.

In fact from reading http://www4.law.cornell.edu/uscode/h...7----000-.html I suspect lots of DVD's are going to be soon taken of the shelves in the USA.

This law seems only to be a back door method of sensor.
