i use photoshop or thumbsplus, bad results, though, so I wonder what is the best, too.

ACDSee does all that I think.

photoshop - but it's slow and cumbersome. Arles can do those jobs pretty well. there's one i am going to try out - saw JaceXXX post it here a few weeks ago but i forget the name - began with an X but not Xara.

for the best batch resizer, watermark, image optimization tool, look no further than xat (http://www.xat.com)

Have been using it for the past 5 years and it is undoubtedly the best tool for this kind of task.

It doesn't rename however, but a free rename tool will do short work of that.

Photoshop, google up photoshop scripting to help with resizing and redundant commands, or pick up a peach pit press book.

Let me know how it works out.
