Why don't people keep their mouth shut

We all know about the new rules and some have great ideas to combat them. Ideas that will keep them in business and possibliy take them to the next level. Yet, they blab about their ideas. Do you believe people on here or in general give a flying fuck whether or not your ass stays in business.

If you've got a kick ass idea, keep the details to your fucking self, so that everyone else don't do the same thing.

Enough said :2 cents:

Lowest common denominator. Welcome to America.

Yea, short bus... bla, bla, bla... I stand by my words and I speak my mind. You honestly think some of the biggest guys in the biz are giving you exactly how their operate or what their gonna do. If they did, most people here would be making $$ hand over fist... that's my point. Agree or disagree, I really don't care

But your initial comment was specific to 2257 and dealing with 2257 is a chore, pure and simple. Maybe you can explain how you think it's smart that thousands of webmasters representing large and small businesses will be separately paying for advice - much of it of dubious value because only a limited number of lawyers are experienced in this field - as to how to cope with this chore?

It isn't smart either that many will likely get their answers from the ton of (mis)information that is being dumped onto message boards. But if there were ever an issue which shows how far we still have to go before we can call ourselves professionals, this is it. And some of the "biggest guys in the biz" are the craziest of the lot: I'm sure several of them will each be spending thousands of dollars on legal opinion about this issue.

Except in theory, there is no competitive edge involved here. If this legislation survives any challenges, most will deal with it one way or another. Some will drop out of the business or be closed down, but even in the unlikely event a big sponsor goes to the wall over this, the impact on everyone else will be minimal. On the other hand, a trade association (if only for this one issue) could collectively save its members a huge amount of money right off the top, by providing a qualified interpretation of these rules and a template for how to deal with them.

Hype and drama turn into market share... the paysite program model has been 'saturated' and 'dead' for close to 5 years now but there are always new guys breaking in, and it's not always on the merit of their program.

The fact that EVERYONE got this info at the exact same time lead to the premature release of many programs at the exact same time (including our own)

This board is full of amateurs and newbies. Many of which do not know business and leak their good ideas because they feel the need to gain recognition and respect from their peers. Others are just idiots and think everyone already knows about a particular topic, so they talk about it openly, not knowing how much new competiton they create.

All the smart businessmen I know keep very quiet about their business and ideas.

finally, someone gets what I'm saying

TheLegacy 05-26-2005 06:37 AM

this is a business not a fraternity. I share business solutions to my clients - those that have already bought content off me - my philosophy is simple, if they stay in business - I stay in business because they keep coming back to me for help and more content. I started in this industry as director of marketing and sales for Python Communications (that was 9 years ago). You dont see me showing off on the boards because I dont need too. My ideas and advice arent free - and those who are my clients are still around and in business. I dont need the approval or a bunch of trolls sucking up and draining me for knowledge when I dont get anything in return.

agreed
also age and maturity has a lot todo with it - the ones that don't give up the ideas are generally older - thus more experienced - the 22/23 and under crowd hasn't learned the hard way yet :winkwink:

truly top guys in the biz do not post on this board or others about their ideas or concepts openly - they rely on a close set of trusted friends and associates in the biz to bounce their ideas off of :2 cents:

Amen brotha. Sing it loud and proud. A lot of people are willing to sap you dry on ICQ's, then will not give you traffic, recognition, or a red cent in return. Then wonder why you are jaded. Yeah..

I am not paranoid about someone stealing my ideas, and shit, as they will not do everything I would in carrying them out, but the fact they want someone without giving ANYTHING in return is a sore spot. So better to remain silent, and just wait for them to come through and do their usual 'view source' rip off's until you find them out later.
