i own adult.xxx

ok. maybe i dont, but someone besides lens will, when this happens. same goes with all the other major names.

so.... tm issues? is adult.com intitled to adult.xxx?

kernelpanic 06-04-2005 06:30 PM

Not necessarily, ICANN has announced that parties with a trademark interest or other substantial interest can secure domains before public registration starts. Lens and crew has a shot at it, but since the word adult can't be trademarked, it'll be interesting to see if ICANN allows him the "substantial interest" clause.

If not, some squatter will be rich.

I heard no, but I assume there will be law suits etc etc etc and of course Lens will get it. I also emailed new.net to ask them where they stand in all this and I havent heard back... except for the email that comes back saying something like due to spam we have changed the email address to... (whatever).

Funky Bastard 06-04-2005 06:31 PM

Nope it's all fair game! If you get it then you own it!

New.net will ignore you, since they're far from official.

It will be interesting to see if all the computers infected with the new.net plugin will recognize the new TLD, or if they'll still continue to point to new.net's nameservers.

mardigras 06-04-2005 06:34 PM

Nope... the first one to get www.thehun.xxx gets to keep it :1orglaugh

Not taking about Lens case which is different but any idiots that bought .xxx through new.net and then planning on sure are doubly idiots and will lose. .XXX was not a legal recognized domain before now.

Is new.net even a recognized registrar by ICANN? If so show me.

That it was.

It'll be interesting to see if new.net's handling of .xxx post-implementation will still be legal, or if it will be considered a "domain hijacking" under anti-spyware laws. New.net is not official, but their plugin/service predated anything that could be hijacked - its hard to hijack something which doesn't exist yet

WOOOOOOHOOOOOOO lawsuits here we come!

:)

Funny how on their site they don't sell any REAL domains.

They still can't say the people that bought .xxx before now own them.

This is going to be a mess. ICANN is global so how are they going to give (for example) adult.xxx to adult.com when maybe there is a adult.jp or adult.co.uk...

I'm betting it's going to be first come first serve, unless of course you are helping them promote .xxx, then I'm sure they will work something out for you. :winkwink:

One big freakin' mess.
