ICQ is the Devil.

My apologies to anyone trying to communicate with me, please don't think me being rude. ICQ won't stay connected, and my contacts list keeps blanking out.

I've seen a few threads over the last few days about similar problems, anyone else still experiencing this?

Basic_man 06-10-2005 05:22 PM

Everything's working great here.. :thumbsup

CrazyNakedChick 06-10-2005 05:33 PM

Gar, might be me. Satellite + a solid week of thunderstorms = unnecessary hassle. Haha. Still wondering why my contacts randomly vanish though....

Thanks for replying. :)

Focker, out!

Bird 06-10-2005 05:47 PM

yup

ICQ sucks, sometimes

NTSS 06-10-2005 05:49 PM

Very funny title....lol

Violetta 06-10-2005 05:50 PM

works ok for me, but I prefer MSN

tungsten 06-10-2005 05:51 PM

ive been having icq problems before and since i switched to GAIM, its been alot better
its easy to use, easy to install and works alot better, its like trillian but alot more simple

Sly 06-10-2005 05:52 PM

You have more problems with ICQ than anyone I know. Try another version or even Trillian.

CrazyNakedChick 06-10-2005 05:56 PM

I blame the Pentaverat!

Honez 06-10-2005 06:00 PM

I have been having a few issues on and off.

CrazyNakedChick 06-10-2005 06:01 PM

Gaim, Trillian. Thank you boys, I'll check them out. Heard a few nasty comments about Trillian, but I'll still look into it. My ISP shows me love by giving me wicked packet loss, that is the bulk of my problem I do believe.

Muchas grassy-ass. :)

been 4 days without icq.

Been using Trillian now. It works fine with trillian but I really don't like it much. Too much bullshit in there to even chat. It will have to do till I get ICQ fixed.

I have heard this from others, that and the standard connection issues.

At this time I would like to announce I am officially moving to smoke signals. I've piled my Amish-bought slab wood 12 feet high and can now send out messages. Joy!

Disregard the "human" sacrifices, and the empty beer cases. :winkwink:

I'd have to second that..or maybe I am just so used to using yahoo messenger....

CrazyNakedChick 06-11-2005 01:45 PM

Trillian isn't doing any better for me. Gah!

DamageX 06-11-2005 02:32 PM

Amber, I've had my fair share of ICQ connection problems and I eventually gave up on it altogether. However, assuming you don't want to do that, here's a fix that used to work for me.

Go to Main -> Preferences -> Connections, click the Server tab. Leave host as login.icq.com and below set the port to 443. For Proxy settings, check Using Firewall and below check Using proxy and choose HTTP. Below that check Keep connection alive. Hopefully this will solve it, did so for me many times.

hova 06-11-2005 02:33 PM

I hate ICQ, so I use email

FilthyRob 06-11-2005 02:33 PM

ICQ is my only way to talk to certain peeps

kernelpanic 06-11-2005 02:34 PM

I've had occasional issues lately

Terry 06-11-2005 02:39 PM

I have certain problems off an on with ICQ. I have lost my contact list a few times, even had it duplicate once. I tired using Trillian but ended up removing it. also tried Qnext and thats not bad, just way to many features. Out of them all MSN is my fav.

loverboy 06-11-2005 02:47 PM

weird, i have yet to experience any downtime from ICQ (5.0)
