It took George Lucas 28 years to tell the whole Star Wars story
 

I give him credit as a filmmaker for following through and finishing up his vision (even if some of the movies were stinkers).

Where do you get this? Return of the Jedi is Ep 6 and 1-5 have also been told. Sounds like a finished story to me. Show me one link where LUCAS himself said he has always planned 9 episodes.

I remember in 1985 seeing sci-fi mag about "Star Wars 4" ( actually would be considered Ep 7 but the mag called it Star Wars 4 )with a supposed pic from the movie the pic showed Luke turning into another Vader. Boy I kept waiting and waiting for that movie to come out.

From the time that Episode IV first came out it was said that it was 4 of 9 episodes. I'm sure it's all over the place on star wars sites and fan sites and such. YOU do the search. I am 100% sure that it was originally a 9 episode series.

I was in the theater back in the 70's when it first came out... the very first one. Everyone noticed in the opening text dialogue that it said "Episode 4", and everyone was asking about why it was episode 4 and not episode 1... and it was learned at that time that it was actually 4 of 9.

I thought it was common knowledge, but I guess not. :D
