Is tipping out of hand?

It seems as though everywhere that I go I see a got damn tip jar next to the cash register.

If all that someone is doing is placing my foot in a bag and taking my money, what exactly do I need to leave a tip for?

There is now a damn tip jar at my local block buster!

When you get good service... tip. Every time I tip well it's my way of appreciating good service. Typically those people in service businesses rely on tipping for a large part of their livelihood. What is small dollars to me is large dollars to them... every chance I get to make someone's day, I'm all over it. I consider it money well spent and occasionally when I really up the ante I just consider the money spent as going directly into my karma bank account.

Tipping at BlockBuster though... yeah I don't know about that! LOL

God I thought I was the only one. There was a tip jar at my local Blockbuster too. And then the kicker was the sign on the tip jar that let us know that all proceeds would be going to buy the clerk a new surfboard...wtf? :disgust

yeah, if someone waits on you or delievers your food a tip is called for. if some 16 yearold at tacobell pushes your order into the register wants a tip, they need to get real

Have you been listening to Jim Rome recently? lol

fris 06-22-2005 09:00 AM

i will give you a tip, suck my fucking dick

I consider myself a very generous tipper, but when it's already added to the bill, that pisses me off.

The only way I'd tip at blockbuster is if they did something WAY above and beyond what a movie clerk normally does. Like if I was lazy and just walked up to the counter and told the clerk I wanted these 3 movies and they actually went and got them off the shelf. I'd tip for that. Of course I'd never be that lazy and I can't imagine they'd do it without giving you a complete look of disbelief.

Waiter, Bartender, Car Wash, Valet, Luggage guy, etc. Tip.
Anyone pusing buttons at the register, dont tip unless you feel they went beyond thier normal duties or did something that warrented it.

likewise... i usually always tip atleast 25%, when i see a 15% gratuity added on it pisses me off because they either thought i wasn't worth more then that, or they are trying to scam a double tip out of me. large groups i can understand, but when its me and someone else... no way.

I've never tipped anyone for putting my foot in a bag :upsidedow

Yeah I only tip for good service... not just for someone checking me out. When a tip gets added to a bill it definitely pisses me off because I'm the customer they lose out on when they do that.. I typically tip 20-25% or more if they do something exceptional.

I have to say though... if I could get a decent fast food meal at McDonalds or Taco Bell where they don't fuck everything up I'd probably pay extra for that. As far as I can tell, the only way to get a decent meal at one of these places is to go out into the countryside and away from Detroit.

LOL

yesterday i went to a small place to order food. they had a tip jar at the register, but actually i DID tip - the girl there did extra stuff for us, she was courteous and friendly, and she made sure our order was right. all that for probably minimum wage or just above - she deserved the tip.
