how do you redirect traffic
 

i am looking to redirect all forgin traffic comming into the web site.

I was wonderin if there is script documentation for a HT access file, or any HT Access File that i could get in order to remove the certan regions from comming into my webspace.

To answer your question - thats something every webmaster would like to do. Good luck ! The problem is that alot of traffic comes in as a numeric address and you cant seprate that traffic. Its easy to redirect everything that isnt .com or .net but the numeric traffic is the problem. You would need a list of every I.P. worldwide sorted by country. Someone on this board was actually working on a program like that a few weeks ago but I cant find the thread.

Couldn't you do a trace of the incomming ip number and see if it resolved to an ISP giving a .uk .ge .rr etc as the country code?

You can run trace programs on ip numbers to resolve a host,(not always successful) so am sure you should be able to program up a script that runs on entry to your site.

You couldn't .htaccess I don't believe, but your index.shtml or whatever your default page is, should be-able to call a script to do a trace that you write... Based on the trace results determine where you redirect the traffic too.

You could even put this trace script on all of your pages and set a session cookie so that the trace script is only called once... But is called to check the country of the user no matter what page they try to access as the first page they try that session :)

Then it's :BangBang: to bad countries... bad I say :evil-laug

To have it work. (rough & ready explanation of steps)

1. On incomming it checks for a cookie - if cookie==forgein then redirect them out.

2. If no cookie then

2.1 check known IP blocks and if block==forgein then redirect them out.

2.2 Backtrace, set a cookie on users computer and store ip address with country in our country database.

2.3 If forgein redirect them out.

It's not perfect and it will take a while to get most users mapped.... But if will speed up over time requiring less and less tracing. Basically as time goes by and his traffic flow increases the tracing will reduce since you will be-able to access more and more country data from the database or cookies.

This is about the best option that I see possible.

use .htaccess ModRewrites to do this, ask a techie they can pull it off easy-like!
