VBulletin Board
I bought one of these VBulletin boards. I asked my server company about it and they said:
----------------------------------------------- "..NO... Do not use vbulletin. That thing sucks! I have another person using it and they had to get another server (Dual 1.2GHZ with 2GB of ram) just to support that database on a second server. If you already bought it... Get a refund..." ----------------------------------------------- Anyone who knows the backend of this board care to comment ? I dont want to buy another server just for a damn Board. Maybe a better question is.. does it use more resources than a UBB board ? |
ahahah this is the most funny thing i ever heard:)
go www.webhostingtalk.com biggest vbulletin site i know and they host on a p3 833 512 ram runs very good |
All I know is that it has its limits. This board for example runs vB and they have trouble basically each and every day. They constantly have about 400 logged in and often it either doesn't count posts, or doesn't track the threads properly or gives other bunch of crap :throwup They have (I think) two machines dedicated to the forum, one for the db, and one for the forum itself... you should really go with UBB if you want a funtioning BBS running.
:2 cents: |
I wonder if the difference is what options are turned on. Im sure that board mentioned above uses alot of resources tracking all the users as they log in and out. Maybe by using only a few chosen options the board runs smoother.
Im hoping some of the mods here will comment. I hate to install this board then have to buy it a dedicated server.. thats insane. I can run 400 mattscripts boards on a single server, ya know ? |
I mailed vbulletin tech support
Me: What options use the most resources ? If one in particular uses alot and its not something I even care about... Atleast then, down the road, I can always turn some resource consuming options off. What do you think the top 3 resource consuming options are ? Vbulletin: None of them really affect anything more than the others except displaying the names of all the users on the front page, which is easily removed in the templates and the search option, which is still not very server intensive at all. That makes sense, because of the two boards posted here. The one that tracks users is plagued with grief - the other is not. I guess I will NOT track user logins... |
First, I can admit that we are more sophisticated users than the average. We had some problems the first day, but we figured out why and things have been smooth. We are currently running it on a dedicated 1.8ghz P4, it doesn't use much Ram.
