patches work very well
I used them a few years ago (when they were first released) and quit smoking with relative ease. Carry around a shitload of chewy with you too. When you get the cravings for a ciggy do the following 1. take a few really deep breathes (part of the reason people associate smoking with relaxing is the deep breathes taken when smoking) 2. have a glass of water or anything to drink 3. get out that chewy and take a few more deep breaths. Once you get over the initial craving you'll be fine for another hour or so and slowly but surely the cravings get further and further apart until finally you can just breeze thru the days without wanting a smoke. Plus the added bonus is the amount of money you'll save. When a craving kicks in just think, i'll be able to buy myself such and such toy if i don't smoke. Takes a while and is fuckign hard to quit. GOod luck and hope you manage to kick the habit. |

I've tried the gum, it works well but all you're doing is transferring your addiction to something else. I could never permanently quit that way. You want to get the nicotine out of your body completely, which takes like 72 hours I believe. The patch, well, tried that too, I put it on and was smoking again within 45 minutes...I think the key with that is to stay COMPLETELY busy to the point of not thinking about it at all. I plan on trying again within a month or so, gonna try that smokeaway stuff, I've had great luck with herbal stuff in the past (insomnia and other issues). Or just suck it up and quit cold turkey....but don't let any know-it-all bastard fuck tell you "it's all in you head" because it's not...nicotine's seriously fucking gnarly shit...it affects you just as much physically as it does mentally...but you really do have to be in the right state of mind to quit.

Get some Zyban :) take that for a week or so, Plan a stop date to stop smoking and go on the patch that day.
I quit a month ago today doing this and it hasn't been that hard at all. :thumbsup But I really wanted to stop and I think that's the most important. The Zyban kicked my ass so I stopped taking it a couple days after I started the patch but the shit really works. |

takes a week or so to lose the cravings.You will become an asshole in that time as well, so warn family and friends to steer clear. after 2 weeks you'll feel alot better, then start a daily exercise regiment ( personally I walk ). Also change your lifestyle to stay away from things that you used to do while smoking ( IE: smoking after a meal ) instead of smoking go for a walk etc. I quit Jan 30th and havent looked back. Friend of mine did a 10 day stint on a deep sea fishing boat. He smokes a pack a day and only took one packet. Had no smokes left after a day and no way to get any more. He's been back about three weeks now and he hasn't started smoking again yet. Not exactly a practical method, though. hehe.

i used patches to cut down from 20cigs/day/16mg to 1-2cigs/day/2mg then 1/day then 1 every few days then none... then off patches as well. I found this pretty easy.. a lot of people say cold turkey is the best way.. i'd tried that several times already but failed.. it's different for everyone. gradual reduction was the way for me..
