Cingular shut my cell off for being around a day late?

Not a huge issue, just had to hit a pay phone and call the 800 payment number. Phone was back on in less than a minute.

Seems a bit much though.

XxXotic 08-04-2005 07:15 AM

that does seem kinda premature. History of being late?

brand0n 08-04-2005 07:16 AM

fuck cingular

get suncom

Nothing huge. I admit I have got that "Dial Star PAY" text message before. They usually hit you with that when you are 1 or 2 days late. You just punch in the numbers and submit payment. All the info is stored. First time I got it I called them and they said it was no big deal and that it was the norm for Cingular customers.

Maybe that is the issue. I guess I should be more attentive.

Cory W 08-04-2005 07:20 AM

What is suncom?

brand0n 08-04-2005 07:21 AM

I guess they have their reasons. I wish the line just directly connected you to the pay center at least, going to the pay phone was the only real hassle.

SouthernGirl 08-04-2005 08:08 AM

1 day late? dont you mean one day past the day they were going to cut you off for being late?

No I don't.

JUSTB 08-04-2005 08:13 AM

TMobile did that to me once. It was due to a billing error on their end though. I did not have a fit just in case I ever get disc and it's my fault ; )

There in holland they automaticly deduct the amount from your bank acc. ( on request )

MickeyG 08-04-2005 08:16 AM

pay your bills on time and you wont have that problem. :1orglaugh

EroticySteve 08-04-2005 08:16 AM

There are lousy power companies that do the same. They send the late notice so it arrives on the day they plan on disconnecting. You get home, the disconnect letter is in the mailbox, you open the door and there is no power. It's now after 5pm so the reconnect fee to send the guy over who's only a block away is another $50. I mean, hey pay for what you use and be on time with bills, but everyone is allowed a mistake.

Online bill pay works well to fix that problem.

Adam 08-04-2005 08:19 AM

I went through something like that the other day with my service provider here in Canada. I was really pissed to be honest! I have been with this company for 2 years now, and my bills every month are not cheap, so I went to make a call the other day and i was fowarded directly to there customer service dept. I guess I can understand why they do this, but for someone who has been a customer for a while and spends alot of money with them, they were giving me a hard time, I told them to just hook it back up and I would stop by the bank on my way home and make the payment, they wouldnt do it, thats the reason I was mad! So I called back and spoke to a supervisor and had it conected!

I just think these mobile companies do not appreciate a long term customer who spends alot of money with them, I could easily be spending that money with another company, I dont know how it is in the states with these types of companies, but I know the experiences i have had here with a couple different ones and they are not good at all, they really need to be more appreciative to they're customers IMO!

SinSational 08-04-2005 08:24 AM

i've missed a few billing cycle and then never shut me down.

SouthernGirl 08-04-2005 08:26 AM

the truth: youve got to be really late to get cut off.

Digibucks 08-04-2005 08:29 AM

ah yeah...that sucks, common problems nowadays!

appreciation? come one dude. these are billion dollar companies with millions of users. i dont think your contribution over the long term , no matter how big you think it is, is going to mean anything to them. they dont owe youanything except to provide the service that you are PAYING for. when you stop PAYING for it, you get cut off.

Peaches 08-04-2005 08:30 AM

They did that to me on my first bill. I didn't receive it (apparently the first bill was "lost" whereas the cancellation notice made it to my house just fine). It was for a partial month - just a couple of days - so I didn't even expect the bill yet. They cut me off then charged me $35 to turn it back on again. A complaint to the FCC got that taken care of.

milkit 08-04-2005 08:30 AM

I pay mine online the day i get the bill.

I was barely late, thats really my point I guess, I pay them month after month and to not reconect it for one hour untill I made the payment was the issue, and to be rude aswell! and just because these are billion dollar companies dosent mean they dont have to provide any type of customer service. But like I said before, I understand why they did this, I just wasnt happy the way it was handled, I just thought I would share!

Cassie 08-04-2005 08:36 AM

make sure to pay your cell bill on time or before it's due. the last thing you want is a cell company putting a mark on your credit report. it's more difficult to get that removed then a tax lein.

I actually just registered to do that, I will now pay my bills online, much better!

After Shock Media 08-04-2005 10:43 AM

For those saying you need to be really late or whatever before the interrupt service :321GFY That shit does happen.
My fiance has a sprint account on her cell. For the longest time everything was smooth since I always pay bills the household bills the second they arrive. Well they offered online billing and gave a one time credit for adding it so we went ahead and did it.
This is when the problem began. Apparently there is a delay or was a delay in the online billing, so it sent the invoice out the same day as the due by date would of been on your paper bill. Very first month of using online billing and she goes to work and her cell does not function. I call in and explain the issue and pay it. Cell is back on. Later that day the invoice arrives in my email sent after I made the payment. Same thing happens the following month.
I just switched it to autopay now, but damn that shit was stupid and annoying.
P.S. Sprint has other issues with its online accounts. Little word of warning, if the site times out on you while your making a payment. Call in immediatly to cancel it. Or it will register as a NSF charge.

Radik 08-04-2005 11:52 AM

Think about it if you had a huge company would that shit not be done automagicly.. i think so.

BVF 08-04-2005 12:11 PM

Cingular is ITCHING to turn my cell phone off since I'm on the old At&t $99 a month unlimited plan...It's like they can't wait until I'm late to send a cutoff notice....But now I send my shit on time every month so fuck em.

Hollywood Horwitz 08-04-2005 01:33 PM

try t mobile,get more..

Jimmie 08-04-2005 02:35 PM

my last bill was $33. I was going to wait and pay the $33 with the next bill.

Uh-uh. CIngular wasnt having it, shut my service off and wouldnt restore without me paying the $33. Laughable at best, I paid the $33 and they turned my phone back on like an hour later. :1orglaugh

not at all... You made an agreement to make the payment at a specified time. It's a contract. If you breach the contract, then they can shut you off... So much for 'courtesy'... What you don't understand is that you are one of millions of customers and if everyone decided to flagrantly violate the terms of their contracts then it would get totally out of hand. If you don't want the hassle again, get a pay as you go phone from Cingular (Go!) or Tracfone.com Then you can have all the service you want to pay for, when you want to pay for it.

speaking from experience ( :1orglaugh ) you should still be able to dial cingulars 800 number. Look it up and save it in your phone for next time. :winkwink:

NaughtyRob 08-04-2005 03:28 PM

They did the same exact shit to me today. No warning. I guess I need to pay early from now on. :1orglaugh

PixeLs 08-05-2005 12:18 AM

Good thing I'm not powered by it..lol

baddog 08-05-2005 01:26 AM

never have that problem with T-Mobile, they didn't even start bitching until I was a month late. . . and I have done that a couple times

I kind of like them. Last month I noticed I was like <150 minutes, with 2 weeks to go before I would hit overages. I called them and the chick just gave me an extra 100, and made it good until September, no charge . . . didn't even ask for it.

Digipimp 08-05-2005 01:29 AM

sounds like they were being nice, most of them shut your cell off soon as they generate the new bill, which is usually early in the day after your payment was due

xclusive 08-05-2005 01:56 AM

told you not to invite Gabe to any more BBQs or you wouldn't have enough money for the next months phone bill. But did you listen to me? Noooo....:)

Seriously though they love to shut you off cause it's usually a good fee to turn it back on and that makes them extra millions every year.

Relax brother. I bet they would rather have millions of customers a day late on the billing cycle than 0 customers on time :) At the end of the day, it is just an observation, not a complaint.

Btw, Southerngirl, what is that you do? Please be specific in this answer. I have noticed you are in all of my threads. Although your admiration is appreciated, I would enjoy knowing what your occupation is.

And for the record, I can well afford the bill. I am sure my account is more than makes them happy :)

Oddly, it didn't work. I "think" it is because the CS office is 9-5?

I had to use the pay phone.

Best of luck to you then.

Just making the observation that you are in all of my threads.

What sites do you run? Maybe I can help broker you some deals, I know a few people.

Lets talk shop. I love to talk.

Dude. Haha. Thanks, but no thanks. I don't need a broker for my deals - I send traffic, I get paid. I've been doing it that way since 1998, why do I need you?

Come on, show me your site.

You are always in my threads. I find you interesting. You started the game, no need to stop now.

I admit, I am not one for the insult game and I will not start now, but I would however enjoy a little conversation. I was assuming you wanted the same?

No, I just like holding a mirror up to people who need to take a long, hard look.
