So I'm waiting in line for my Coffee ...

at my regular coffee shop. There's pictures on the wall, and the one closest to where you pick up the coffee is a photograph of the Great Wall of China. Behind me is a little girl, maybe 11 years old, and her mother.

Little girl to her mother "Mom, what's that picture of?"

Mother to girl "That's the China Wall. It seperates communist China from regular China."

I turned around, shook my head at the mother and explained that the Great Wall of China is an ancient defensive structure meant to stave off barbarians and that the Berlin wall seperated West and East Germany after WWII.

What's wrong with people these days? If you don't know, tell tell your kids the wrong shit.

I hear you,

and you're right. The GWOC was built to keep out the Mongolian hordes.

How did she react to your correcting her and showing her daughter that her mom is a dumbass? :D

She kind of stumbled on her words for a second and then immediately agreed with an "oh yeah that's right". Normally I wouldn't say anything, but you just know that little girl would be in school one day arguing with her teacher "No not all of China is Communist, that's what the China wall is for!".

StickyGreen 08-13-2005 12:36 PM

why would you wait in a line for a coffee? lol...

3piece chicken Dinner 08-13-2005 12:36 PM

Unfucking believable.

PS. did you correct her in a tone that would convey that you thought she was a complete and utter stupid ass for providing her child with a bullshit answer??

Actually, no I didn't. My personality would suggest that would be the way I would do it, however I was not so much trying to embarass the mother, I just wanted to correct the bad information. Children should be able to believe their parents are champions. I don't need to take that away from anyone. :2 cents:

There are people out there who think the holocast never happened, that the USA didn't land a man on the moon, and some even believe the Earth is flat still.

So I'm not surprised at all by this woman's erroneous take on the Great Wall. :D

I get white chocolate mocha. Grande. Sometimes just a tall. Sometimes a regular chocolate mocha.

From Starbucks, of course.

_mC_ 08-13-2005 12:57 PM

Classic! What's next?

Mother to girl: "The Mississippi river seperates communist America from regular America."

pornguy 08-13-2005 01:01 PM

First of all the Earth is still flat, and Man has never been on the Moon. and I think the wall in China is to keep the bad commies on thier side.

I learned all this from the interweb AOL

BRISK 08-13-2005 01:05 PM

A few years ago I was in London, England and I met some girls from Cleveland, Ohio at the hotel bar. They were doing some travelling around Europe, and said they want to go to Paris, and asked how they should get there. I told them they have a few options including catching a ferry. They asked why they would catch a ferry, and I said because Paris is across the water, to which they replied "What water? Like a lake or something?", to which I replied "across the English Channel, it's part of the Atlantic Ocean", this totally had them confused and they asked "but we already crossed the Atlantic Ocean, we're in Europe", to which I replied "yes, but we're in London, which is in the UK, which is an island seperate from the rest of Europe", to which they replied "it is?"

fuzebox 08-13-2005 01:07 PM

You silly mocha people... The americano is the true pure form :2 cents:

Milky Way mocha, venti, quad shot, extra vanilla and caramel, please.
Whipped cream, chocolate drizzle, sprinkle of cinnamon.

Sarah_Jayne 08-13-2005 01:34 PM

I am equally entertained by the notion of 'communist' and 'regular'. If there were more communists (or equal amounts) than non-communists wouldn't that be 'regular'?

Okay, so you know about the great wall of China, but do you know why the Sky is blue? :)

I learned why in my 3rd year of college physics. The reason is so technical and so long, that a kids brain would melt if they heard it.

Nah. You just sit down your average ten year old and tell them simply "The sky is blue because of Rayleigh scattering.". If they ask what that means, just tell them it's magic. :)

I would have just rolled up the nearest newspaper and smacked the mom on the nose and said "No" for being a dumbass.

Only if the person speaking was Communist as well.

So, if I am the one purple person in a group of blue people I am still regular if I am speaking?

I believe that there's more and more distribution of false information in our society. I NEVER rely on information from another person - it is most likely false or at least inaccurate.

NoCarrier 08-13-2005 02:45 PM

Oh yeah, and the Nazis lost the war because of the americans. If it wasn't of Operation Overlord, Nazis would still rule Europe. Yup. That's a fact.

This was an electricity and magnetism class, all vector calculus physics. I doubt any 8th grader would know why the sky is blue if you asked them.

tristan_D 08-14-2005 06:00 PM

that is a very fatal parental blunder. what would happen to the country's future if they are that misinformed?!

JuiceMonkey 08-14-2005 06:01 PM

oh man yeah I had parents like that
I'd always get owned at school

reed_4 08-14-2005 06:47 PM

the mother doesn't attend her history class when she was a student before.

Hahaha, you should have acted like you don't know and asked more questions to the mom like who's the ruler of the communist side then and why wasn't it brought down like the berlin Wall? :1orglaugh :1orglaugh :1orglaugh

I was at the L.A. zoo with my daughters. we were over by the hippos and this mother tells her children to look at the Rhinos. I was going to say something, but my 8 year old daughter corrected the women. In a much nicer tone of voice then what I would have used.
