How do They Steal Your Meta Tags

I notice a lot of sites steal from my meta description or directly from the content on the page as would show up on Google, It is made to look like a genuine search result but all links then point to one of thier sites (not mine).
How do they do this?

Understand?

JD 08-17-2005 08:15 AM

right click. view source.......... welcome to the interweb

Adult Site Traffic 08-17-2005 08:16 AM

I have scripts that can present your content as my own to SE's but redirect users to my page instead.

Wanna buy it?

This isn't what I meant. You don't manually build a search engine by cheacking page source.

Yep. If you're dumb enough to not install it on a freehost. :1orglaugh

I have clients that I run 100 scripts for on various freehosts.

Google won't necessarily ban you for jacking someone's tags. Neither will they necessarily ban you for jacking someone's content. Both are classless and non-productive ways of getting ranked. Some companies that do SEO for clients copyright their meta tag work. You make your own call on infringing on rights.

Duplicate content will get picked up eventually, however, most people who rip off sites rip off portions of content and these often go unnoticed by spiders.

There are formulas and parameters that some design by. I can tell you that if nothing else the least you need to do for good SEO is write, clean, legible and coherent text that offers value to the reader. Babble and blabber rank well when you consider other factors such as traffic and linking.

It is vitally important to maintain a keen eye on your link strategy, keyword density, keyword relevance and links from sites of similar content in a simiilar context.

That's the most emprical view of SEO that I can offer.

At last an informed answer although not the answer to my question..
Thanks and I couldnt agree more. I just want to know how these people do it.

I've heard somewhere on this board that it's ALL about the META TAGS.

Nah, Google usually bumps them to the top and penalizes the real page :upsidedow

nexcom28 - its called site scraping or content scraping - do a search on Google for those terms and you will find loads of stories and posts about it - recently some SEs have tried to start fighting back but there are still scripts that will do it for you - and people that make money off doing it for their clients as posted above.
Nothing is really "illegal" in the game of the SEs - they are just another site - if you can figure out how to manipulate them at the expense of others - and think that you are doing something you dont have any moral qualms about - it can be very profitable.
As mentioned a few times it can also get you kicked from SEs but a good operator expects those types of things and always has more to go around.
There are other cleaner ways to get the same placements in the SEs - but Ill be damned if Ill share those :)
