To the Firefox experts
I am really trying to learn to like this browser, it has a couple features I like . . . but fuck, it is sure slow, especially with GFY.
When a page loads it looks like it loads, then loads again and then again for a 3rd time. What can I do to speed this thing up? |

Not insulting you, but that's complete ignorance. At the beginning of 2004 I spoke the same way. Summer came, my fiancee needed a new computer, and I tried a G5. Now I have 1 PC only (vs. 8 then) and 4 Macs. The PC is only kept around so I can see what sites look like on inferior machines. |
Here's a tip!
"Here's something for broadband people that will really speed Firefox up: 1.Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries: network.http.pipelining network.http.proxy.pipelining network.http.pipelining.maxrequests Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading. 2. Alter the entries as follows: Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true" Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true" Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once. 3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives. If you're using a broadband connection you'll load pages MUCH faster now!" Seems to work for me. |

Sorry, I probably should have clarified, I am looking for a logical/reasonable/good solution. |

Maybe it's your machine Baddog? Firefox is fast as fuck on mine.. and it's not even top of the line. Athlon 64, 1 gig ram, win xp pro. Or maybe a software conflict with your antivirus or your software firewall?
|
I changed a LOT of the config options found from many links people posted or google found, and it's lightning fast on this PC now. It's all in the config.
The PC I'm currently on: AMD Athlon XP 2000+ 1.67 Ghz, 512 MB of RAM so you can see it's definately not the hardware making it fast :) |

Didn't you once post a screen shot of your desktop which looked like Windows 95? That was like 2 months ago

Q. How can I speed up FF on my machine? A. Buy a MAC and a new chrome toaster while looking out a pane glass window, but only do it on Tuesday. Sorry I don't have much to add, baddog. If you get an answer that helps, please let me know, because I've uninstalled FF at this point. It's a trashy resource hog. |
This world is run on windows and 91% of software runs on windows. Not saying its all better than mac but you gotta like the odds.

Mine was fast before and now it is flying with the changes.
