HOT! Scientists Manipulate Speed Of Light!

http://www.livescience.com/technolog...fastlight.html

Yo, you guys have no idea what this breakthrough means. To go faster than light is supposed to be an impossibility. Now it ain't.

Makes me think of that Star Trek episode about Zephram Cochran the man who invented warp drive. He was supposed to do that in 2060+ AD. Seemed a bit too far fetched at first but now with this discovery it don't.

The changes in computer processing and communications alone will be astounding to say the least.

If we can beat this problem, nothing is an impossiblity.

If we can hold off from blowing ourselves up we can really make life a paradise.

interesting indeed, i'm no physicist but i can imagine that would change some things in the theory dept.

Ja! I'd say so!

It would change things like...

WE COULD BUILD SHIPS THAT TRAVEL TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE UNIVERSE IN MINUTES.

So that blows Einstein's theory away that nothing can move faster than light.

Problem is, you can build a ship that could travel faster than light but navigation and computing would have to be light years ahead of what we know now. If you can move faster than light, you can go into the future. Maybe, maybe into the past.

Once they can manipulate the speed of light ,then time travel is possible in theory.

Interesting

How could you read such a short article, and totally misunderstand what was being said?

They did not find a way to make light go faster. Try reading the article again......

Basically, this entire article is about relativity..... The break the light up into different phase pulses, slow some of those phases down, which makes the rest of the phases, relative to the others, APPEAR to go faster than the speed of light.

No wonder politicians are able to manipulate people and lead them like a flock of sheep with 15 second ad spots........

Einstine said that you could surpass the speed of light.

you do know that light does not travel the same speed in air, water, glass, etc when compared to a vacuum right?
u can control the speed of light just by making it go thru another medium
thats why light bends in water, it goes slower in water than air

pornguy 08-19-2005 09:10 PM

You can already get Internet connections via light transmitters.

hentchiu 08-19-2005 09:13 PM

naah....time travel for human made up of carbon is not a possibility....speed causes friction then heat and burn every atom of carbon up ... unless we change our body makeup as well to take the speed....we will die before it reaches the proper speed to travel thru time

MetroPornTour 08-19-2005 09:14 PM

How long until they make a Holodeck and I can start filming Holo-Girls for free?

Ja, we KNOW THAT as we can read the article about the pulses and apparency. If you KNEW what the THEORY OF RELATIVITY is, you would notice the word:

RELATIVITY.

Exactly! Which is a main problem of telescopes and trying to judge the distance and age of the Universe and it's objects.

Space is NOT a vacuum. If you look carefully you'll notice someone put a UNIVERSE smack dab in the middle of it. Huge gaseous clouds light years in length and breadth and 100s of billions of galaxies and 70%+ matter we can't fully detect. So light travelling through all that shit is dependable enough to measure age and distance?

I think not :)

I remember reading a site somewhere that said we were evolving into crystalline based creatures. lol

"Although information can be channeled through fiber optics at the speed of light, it can?t be processed at this speed because with current technologies, light signals must be transformed into much slower electrical signals before they are useful. "

Why are you telling me what I do and do not have an idea about?

montel 08-19-2005 11:47 PM

hmm interesting hypothesis professor

There goes Einstein's Relativity Theory, which is based on the speed of light being constant (=c).
