a young mother broke my heart today

i'm walking skufty downtown and this young mom with a baby in her arms and and 3-4 year old in tow comes up and asks to pet skufty. they play with him for a bit - she looks tired - not wacked out at all - just tired so i ask her where she's going - she says she's been walking for over 10 hours from the other side if the city and still has many hours to go to get to her home on the other side and her husband canceled her bank card. I didn't get into reasons why - but i felt sorry for her so i offer her a ride - she says she can't take it cause her young daughter won't get into a stranger's car, smart kid. So i pull out $40 and hand it to her saying this should cover cab fair. She looks shocked - totally shocked. She didn't ask me for anything but i could tell she needed a ride bad - she was very tired. She thanked me repeatidly and went on her way. I think she made my day more than I made hers.

Good for you man. I wish I could help more people like that.

Ninja Scripts 08-28-2005 11:19 PM

Very nice of you, some people would have run the other way.

Mako 08-28-2005 11:20 PM

Scotty's desperate to rack up some good karma to fend off the "death" prediction from the crazy girl! :winkwink:

I'm the same way, total sucker for a good story. For me its "wounded veterans", even when it's blatantly bullshit I always give them twenties.

Sosa 08-28-2005 11:22 PM

awesome scott. very nice! I bet you made her and her families day. Hopefully all is well with her and her family.

MetaMan 08-28-2005 11:24 PM

do you want a medal?

you are supposed to do nice things for people because it is the nice thing to do, you arent supposed to go around telling people about how great a person you are just because you did the right thing. :2 cents:

throwdown 08-28-2005 11:25 PM

helping out the needy rocks

that wasn't the point, obviously you missed it completely

if i posted every time i did something like that i'd make several posts a day about that kind of thing

BV 08-28-2005 11:28 PM

I like to hear stuff like that.

My GF had a similar experience a few weeks ago at a McDonalds. A homeless couple was trying to buy a small hamburger and fries with a debit card and it was being declined and the cashier was being all snotty and short with them. My GF gave the cashier 20 bucks and told told her to give them all the food they want. They were very gratefull and surprised.

Mako 08-28-2005 11:28 PM

Where is NoCarrier, I want him to photoshop a homeless chick getting a "fake punch" from Scotty with $40 in his hand and post it lol...

*Lurkers, not "hating" here, I think it's commendable. Even if it's intrinsicly motivated out of gratification, giving money to anyone in need is extremely noble. But it doesn't mean we can't have a little fun... :upsidedow

Sin 08-28-2005 11:29 PM

Awesome, its good to know everybody around here isn't a complete asshole! :) (j/k, but honestly, some peeps...)

i apologize for directing that post at you, kind of made my point useless on this occasion i admit.

good to do things for people out of kindess, and if it comes naturally then all the better.

i retract my post.

webgurl 08-28-2005 11:31 PM

blazi 08-28-2005 11:57 PM

PixeLs 08-29-2005 12:17 AM

One of the reason why this world aint doomed yet.

baddog 08-29-2005 12:20 AM

how big of a city do you live in that it takes 10 hours of walking to get across town?

chodadog 08-29-2005 12:49 AM

Is your self esteem really so low that you need to hear people tell you that you're a good person for doing this? I suppose in the end, it doesn't really matter what your motivation was for doing it. Whether you did it out of the kindness of your heart, or to get a pat on the back, the woman still got to where she was going a lot easier, and that is a good think.

Maybe it's naive of me, but i just wish people would do things because it is the right thing to do, and not because they're looking to be congratulated for being such a wonderful human being.

BigWebRev 08-29-2005 12:53 AM

good stuff dude

Sarah - GTS 08-29-2005 12:56 AM

Compassion feels really good. Expecting nothing in return feels very liberating.

sniperwolf 08-29-2005 01:21 AM

you just made me cry dude... that's a very touching scene...

That was really nice of you :) However... anyone with half a brain would NEVER walk for 10hrs with a 3-4. Never.

She could have called the police and they would have driven her home. Then they prolly would have told her to leave the fucking asshole she was with so maybe thats why she didn't use them.

EroticySteve 08-29-2005 07:17 AM

A couple people are giving Sleazy crap because he was a nice guy and mentioned it. Leave the man alone. You know what he should mention this and there is nothing wrong with it. He's probably not looking for any type of recognition but he's sharing an account of how he's helping to make the world a better place. Chances are that $40 for a cab ride was the greatest thing that's happened to her in a long time.
She'll probably remember it for a long time to come.

Go Sleazy, good job man.

DraX 08-29-2005 07:19 AM

nice done sleazy

Peaches 08-29-2005 07:21 AM
