How can you guys pay so much for bandwidth?
 

I use right now about 25mbs per server. Now i saw adult hosts charging $150 for 2 mbps for dedicated boxes. If that is the case you guys must be paying SHIT load of $ on bandwidth.

If you do more mbps / server the price comes down.

Think about it, if a great server like a Dual Xeon, Gig of RAM, SCSI drive costs under 2,000$ then getting 2 mbps with that kind of server the majority of the cost is going to pay for the hardware and margins are small.

As you increase the volume of bandwidth then a better price can be given on both hardware and megabits.

So yeah if you get an expensive server with little bandwidth you can rest assured it wont go down if you go with a great host, and if you start to ramp up traffic your rates will go down as well.

usually people using up a large amount of bw are making a large amount of cash as well

so many variations, you can burn 25mbit and make $500 out of it and you can use 2-3gb/month and make $5000. Not everyone's business is directly involved to bandwidth volume.

Bandwidth is only cheap because your not getting what you paid for.. Your being lied to or sharing oversold bandwidth, may not bite you today but it will.

all depends on what you're pushing. p2p is going to burn way more bandwidth than seo.

$3.50/gig transferred. Insane prices, I'm aware of that, but I consider my stuff to be mission critical.

the double of that and it's cogent though I got a little monster
machine..

You can buy cogent from cogent for 100 mps at $1000.

But I still wouldn't touch it.
