New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin said he's feeling better about his city, he feels confident he has gotten the attention of Gov. Kathleen Blanco and President Bush, but he said he fears the Central Intelligence Agency may take him out because he's been yelling at these officials.

He didn't say it once. He said it twice.

Last night he told a reporter for the Associated Press: "If the CIA slips me something and next week you don't see me, you'll all know what happened."

Today he told interviewers for CNN on a live broadcast he feared the "CIA might take me out."

Nagin resorted to vulgarity and profanity yesterday in his pleas for help. But he was actually calmer today, despite the hyperbole.

Nagin said Bush gave him a "hearty" greeting and did not seem at all offended by Nagin's earlier outburst.

"I do think the pleas for help basically got the nation's attention, and the nation's attention got everybody to stop and re-evaluate what was going on, including the president. ... He basically said, 'Look, our response was not what it should have been and we're going to fix it right now.'"

Nagin said evacuation has been hampered by officials' difficulty grasping where state authority ends and federal authority begins and he said he very frankly urged Bush and Blanco to get a clear chain of command straightened out immediately.

Yeah, the CIA should take his incompetent ass out of there. He is the Mayor. What did he do besides deflect blame?

The Republicans stand to lose all their momentum from the power shift of the 90s. I doubt the Mayor will be killed but I am sure Karl Rove will assassinate his character soon.

I am amazed anyone would ever vote Republican again after what happened in New Orleans.

He should probably be more scared of the people whose families he could have saved by planning for the hurricane that was on its way. He left the school buses in the parking lot, even though using them was part of the disaster plan to evacuate New Orleans in the event of a Hurricane.

And there were actually some people who believed that Mayor Ray Nagin was actually some kind of intelligent man... Hah!

LOL - ya mean the crack head - yeah he was a piece of work. The news media made him out to be in the wrong place at the wrong time - but those of us that lived there back then knew better - he used to show up at the private after-hours clubs all the time

I wouldn't put that beyond Bush at all. I read that a lot of people who speak out agains the US get assassinated all the time. There was even a list here posted awhile ago of people who died mysterious accidental deaths under Clinton. I would not put ANYTHING past this government at all.

Nagin was smart to say so on tv. Because now the CIA can't kill him because the media now knows if something happens its the CIA!
