design contest - cheap way to get what you want
 

Are design contests a cheap way to get what you want? Seems many of the design contests don't offer much money, especially considering how much income some of the guys make who have run them on GFY

I was thinking of starting a design thread for 4 new sites we have coming out.

I have tried to get designers to work for me before, but they take too long, and im not easy to please..... basically, the designer tried pawning off some really ugly peice of crap to me, and I said fuck that.....

so.... I bought photoshop and flash and did the designing myself. I told myself i didnt have time then, but, I really dont have time to design the new sites now.

I thought maybe starting some logo design threads might be a good place for me to start my next projects?? who knows..... maybe ill get fed up and design the new sites myself.

We work the design until you are 100% happy with the job we do

and you dont make the final payment until you are completely satisfied with the work

Well, I think that design contests are not fair, because they have only one winner, who gets payment for the job... Others spend their time and resources and get no benefit at all...

And I think designers know this fact very well. And maybe because of that many of them (if not all) are not so industrious while working on the contest project...
And this will influence the quality for sure...

I think it's better to hire one designer and be as picky with him as possible until you get what you want - that's because you pay him the money.

We had some picky clients and it was really hard to work with them. But the key to success here is patience. They were satisfied by the way and now they are our returning customers. :thumbsup

Designers that enter get to show off what they can do.

I am sure the some contestants get business from them.

I have not won a contest but I have been inspired to work on my photoshop skills and I get ideas from the other designers.

I think the design contests on this board are a bit too cheap. There are some good ones, but for example $100 logo contest, normally you'd pay $250 for a good logo and now you can pick out of 20 logo's for just $100. It's crazy how many designers join these contests.

you'd think that someone trying to sell design services would have a nicer site and logo :2 cents:

My probelm is that some of the guys that actually run these contests are pretty well off. One less hooker for the week won't kill them.

its done as a way to blast their name out in the industry without doing anything.

contests have quickly become a new form of spam.

for $100 you can get 25+ logos, and have hundreds of people branding your site even before its launched :1orglaugh

the last contest i tried was the Sleazydream, Ambush Interview, and i won.
