Freehost owners -- what about Warez?
Anyone have established routines for dealing with warez traffic? Have you been able to make a profit on it? Cut losses?
|
Ooops.. my mistake. Nobody here knows what warez are. Well, I don't want to corrupt you all while you're eating your flapjacks. Have a nice breakfast.
|
Replace their zips, exes, aces with your premade templates of a dialer :)
make the fuckers pay $$$ |
they are so nasty lately...
there's some kinda software they use to cut stuff into thousands of gifs....50-80kbs.... thats fucking annoying.........:ak47: |
I'm thinking of writing a script that auto-recompresses their gif's (automatically stripping the of any warez content). I don't allow the filetypes listed above.
Actually, I'm more curious about once they're caught, if there's anywhere profitable to send their traffic? Mod chip programs? Blank CD purchase page at future-shop? |
I got a Established Routine
First you Fly to Where ever them Fuckers Live Second you Bust into thier House Third You Beat there Ass With a Fucking Golf Club Forth you Drag them To their Neighboors Car Fifth Put them on the Hood and Tie them Down Sixth You Douse them with Gas while they are still alive Seven You Sit across the Street with a Ak-47 and Take Shots at them Hopefully you Can get a Few rounds in them so they are still alive while the Car blows up and Rips them to Fucking Pieces THen you Fuck thier Girl friends |
FUck that light the car on fire and go for a drive!

Well, there are many things you can do, but keep in mind:
1. If you just compress it or corrupt it by eliminating a single bit (will work as a legit file but will not as a program), change colour tables etc. you will indeed make it impossible to use as software - but people will not know it until after they downloaded it, which means while you fucked them, you also kind of fucked yourself because you did pay for the bandwidth... 2. The dialer idea while good, the dilaer company will either lose its licence - or will simply pay the customers back (more likely) so you will not make $$$ 3. What I would do in your place, is try to get a bad reputation with warez people. Since these are executable files, change them to malecious files that cause damage (worms, viruses etc.); When you will damage enough people your IP will be in the warez black list... which is where you want to be 4. Of course, you can be a pro-active sys-admin and actually work hard to find them in time and delete them... They all have the same pattern so just keep looking for them. 5. There is another very effective way for doing that, but if I tell you I will have to kill you. :ak47: |
fuck them:ak47:
|
if the warez "industry" has your freehost as a perm target, you are fucked up. Several high speed lines will upload 100000s small fies and post the links to their warez boards where 100000s surfers read them per day. You'll see you giant server suffering and everytime they'll find a way to trick you. You gotta love this game. :) Of course some of the big guys have found a way to deal with it, but dont expect sharing the knowledge. Is part of the survival tool a freehost owner needs. :winkwink:
|
not having ftp is a good solution, but i think even for this now they have found a way to by pass it. Oscer knows more ;)
|
Soul is 100% spot on.
While there ARE ways to deal with this crap automatically, don't expect anyone to just puke it here on the forum. It takes quite a lot of time and effort to get there... As for FTP, while this may help you get rid of 90% of the crap - it also means your legit webmasters will hate you! So this is not a real "solution". Having said that, the mighty GeoCities just discontinued their FTP access... Does that mean even THEY gave up this fight??? Again, there are ways to script your way out of this, but until you get there just make your IP the end user's biggest nightmare. There is only one way I know of - how to spread a vicious rumour. Make it real! Replace the warez with vicious executable files. Make them suffer. Fight your way into their black lists and save your soul! Alternatively, give up. |
Thanks.. some good suggestions here. I do actively monitor the files on my freehost.. warez sites don't generally last more than 2-3 hours.. usually not enough time for them to be useful.
The suggestions about viruses and worms are smart, but unfortunately, I'm pretty sure they're illegal. I'm trying to avoid anything that will get *me* in more trouble. I really believe their is some product or service for which each person is a legitimate buyer.. even some warez kid has a product that will sell to 1:1000. Hrmm. I'll keep looking! Thanks for all your input so far. |
Problem is they don't see your page at all... They simply put the URL in their little program and it downloads everything. Even if you try to redirect them to a sponsor or anything else, they won't see it... IMHO it's a waste of time
|
This might be true sometimes.. but I've redirected to my main page, and recieved proportionate increases in my sponsor click-thru's. In many cases, there are real human clicks going on.
|
Our freehost software a few freehosts are using, detects warez in both jpeg and gif files, and we of course nuke them. The problem with the warez is alot of them actually lock up the converters, and they are also fully valid image files. But they can be detected:)
|
I wonder if the clients they use to DL warez accept gzip encoding types.. if they do, I can make a 50 bytes gzip file which uncompresses to 50 or 60 gigs ( I think this is possible ), and that appear to lockup their software whenever they try to dl warez from my server.
I'm gonna read up on gzip. |
FYI.. without actually reading the gzip spec, I've created 4k files that decompress to 5 megs. I think there's promimse in this idea. I could also automatically reject clients that don't accept gzip encoding.. because I think all the latest browsers do.
|
I'm sick of these warez fucks !
|
Really .. there's a reason they stay ahead of the game.. it's cause they communicate.
Of course, they're not busy trying to hog the biggest piece of the pie. |
Adultwire: you are indeed correct.. those warez guys are busy networking and trading nasty proggies that drain our resources while we freehosts all sit in our ivory towers trying to fight them independently coz we don't want the competition to get ahead..
There's lots of things that can be done (although a lot of these can be undone by the little warez geeks!) including.. image compression image validation (watch for those 8x8 gifs that pretend to be 3k but are really 80k!) image alteration image conversion replacing with dialers or other proggy blocking ips/isps/countries where warez ppl seeem to thrive logging and tracing them while they are 'in action' and calling the local authorities to nab them (we just did that yesterday to a student in canada ;) etc etc.. anthrax letters are particularly effective these days.. :winkwink: Gotta keep on your toes to catch these fuckers! Just when you thought you'd solved it they come right back with some sneaky new way around your carefully crafted filters.. :feels-hot Of course you could just buy so much bandwidth and huge mega servers that can handle anything you throw at them then ya don't have to worry too much about a few measly little copies of XP or whatever.. :thumbsup |
Haha.. the worst part is that in theory, you or me could become the defandant in Symantec's next copyright infingement lawsuit. It's unlikely, but I don't take kindly to anyone who puts me in that position. Im not *REALLY* interested in punishing them, but I am interested in recouping my losses, and if I can't do so reliably, trying to make a profit part of the time.
That list of yours has some cool stuff in it. I'm working on a job for someone right now, but when I'm done, I'm going to look into implementing the gzip thing for when people get caught.. imagine having a 40 gig drive, you go to download half a dozen little gif files, and within 3 seconds, your harddrive is FULL -- computer crashing until you realize what's happened or reboot. No perm. damage caused.. I don't think it's as bad as trying to give them a virus.. it's just a nasty self defense mechanism. |
>> Of course some of the big guys have found a way to deal with it, but dont expect sharing the knowledge. Is part of the survival tool a freehost owner needs
anyone that wants software to do this on their freehost lmk, I have been developing this shit to kill lamers on freewebsites.com for 2 years |
>> I'm sick of these warez fucks !
the worst ones are .jp definitely I just fucking banned all japan you can use really simple methodology to disabled their sites on the fly... |
Spanno...i asked you about a year ago about that..you said its propriatary :)
Ill be mailing you know if you can share hehe |
.jp is blocked on my signup page too :)
|
I don't want to completely block jp, but I just may have to. Every "bad case" that I've had has originated there.
|
Yeah but they're not stupid, they started to use proxies.. You'll need to do more than banning *.jp
