The reason we don't have things like that in the U.S. is because we fuck over our inventors here. It's a fierce, ruthless business for sure. There are numerous new and alternate energy technologies, medical, farming, fishing, textiles etc. but they'll never see the light of day because the inventors either get bought out via intimidation or they get murdered or they go broke and their inventions get snagged up by the guys who drove them into bankruptcy in the first place.
It's really, really, vicious. You see those commercials about companies that want to help you with your invention, but what they don't tell you is the final hurdle, funding, ends up with the investors getting 99.9% of your shit.
That's why it takes forever for a new invention to hit the market if it can hit the market at all. The Japanese are different in this that they know a good thing when they see it.
