SNL Weekend Update - LOL

FEY -- "Yesterday, Dick Cheney's chief of staff Scooter Libby was indicted on five felony counts ranging from perjury to obstruction of justice in the Valerie Plame leak case. For more on this story, ask Scooter. Apparently that mofo'll tell you anything." FEY -- "If convicted, Libby could face the following penalties: obstruction of justice - 10 years in prison. Making false statements - 5 years. Perjury - 5 years. Going to jail with the name Scooter - priceless." FEY -- "The indictments against Scooter Libby were announced at a press conference Friday by Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald. Trim, soft-spoken, manly Patrick Fitzgerald. His clear, steady voice, piercing blue eyes and impeachable integrity restoring my faith in America and making me want to do things I have never done before. I love you, Patrick Fitzgerald, because you don't lie to me. I love you." POEHLER -- (in reference to a picture of Harriet Miers) "Shocking many on Thursday, the Religious Right participated in a second term abortion." STOLEN FROM: http://www.nbc.com/Saturday_Night_Live/ |
Pretty funny writing...the show hasn't aired on the Left Coast yet, so hopefully the acting was worthy of the writing.
Why I say this is because IMHO the SNL Weekend Update news segment has lagged considerably since Jimmy Fallon left. Amy Poehler sucks in that role (bad timing, apparent reading, etc), and she has dragged Tina Fey down with her. I prefer the dynamic of either a male and female, or a single anchor, if they are going to do two females, they need to have one who at least has some bite. I assume thats what Poehler is supposed to add, but it usually comes across badly to me. Amy Poehler is okay in some sketches, but she in over her head (like Colin Quinn was), when it comes to doing the news. I say give Horatio Sanz or one of the others a shot...Maya Rudolph appears to be the most versatile and talented female on the cast - I think she would kill on Weekend Update. That's the news, have a good weekend, ADG Webmaster |
