MODS: Why was the 30K "Domain Thread" Closed?
Just curious, why was this thread closed?
Recent Domain Sales. please add. http://www.gfy.com/showthread.php?t=...&page=37&pp=50 It had over 35+ pages and generated 31,104 page views for GFY? No explanation given, or needed since it's not my board, but just curious what prompted it? Thanks in advance. for all the haters, go ahead and post your OWNED pics now. LOL. I thought there were plenty of real Webmasters reading that thread, lurking, but reading. oh well. end of an era. :pimp . |
Same reason the fonz thread was closed. It was huge, people liked it, and it contained no drama.
|
let me know if anyone was out there reading it...

We should break out a new set. I think Ghandi had some important messages. |
yeah thats pretty crazy.. It would be good to know why it was locked so whatever the problem was can be avoided in the future.
|
oh shit... this thread just got a lil gay.... ;)
|
Maybe it was the wrong forum? Seems this area is reserved for death threats, pedo accusations, scat, and general surfers. Oh, and klikrev whores.

sends a clear message... no? :winkwink: |
That is the kind of thing that happens when a company like playboy owns a board like this.

because it was too popular.
you wanna be at the top of the forums all the time? by ads. get pinned. etc/ |

Exactly that's the point. Why close them? Lens said the Fonz thread was what people were criticizing GFY for. I would think more people would be criticising the board for all the retards that run amuck day in, and day out unchecked. I doubt the Fonz stirred up much critiscism at all. |

you think it was Playboy or one of the MODs who is friends with NOFX? :1orglaugh do MODS ever explain why they closed a thread? shit, another another board offered me a JOB to go post my info over there and I stayed here cause I thought it was a welcome thread and was slowly building a network of associates... but damn... do I feel BURNED. :upsidedow . . |

I guess no mods have seen this thread :1orglaugh
|
I loved that thread. :(
|
Just make a new one Taboo. They didn't tell you not to, so make one. It could just be that it's harder on the server to query through the huge threads ?

chio you made history with the last post in the fonz

*does the robot*

Yeah :( It was that post that made them notice it, so I'm partially responsible for it's demise. Sorry Shoehorn! |

SHUTUP!! |
What was the purpose to post 500 times in your thread anyways?
|
GFY outsources it's mods.
Please send an email to india and await a response in 2 to 4 years. |

maybe one of the mods MISTAKENLY thought it was DOMAINS FOR SALE when the thread actually listed DOMAINS THAT HAVE ALREADY SOLD it was a guide, a tracker, etc to help webmasters figure out what was going on in certain parts of the domain industry, price tracking, news, networking, etc... Even when they closed the FONZ thread they offered up a reason. So, MODS, why'd you shut down that thread? :helpme http://www.gfy.com/showthread.php?t=...&page=37&pp=50 |
Your right..I didn't bother to read it..just noticed a few people posted quite a bit into it..My guess they thought it was spammy and probably thought it was being bumped too much..It's just like those contests..they close them as well.
|
Quote:
It wasn't spammy at all... we just posted when a big domain sale or trend hit the news.... but lots of behind-the-scenes emails and deals generated from meeting in that thread... not just from me... from many others. lots of good business contacts in the adult industry. adult webmasters and many domainers... lots of cross-pollination... oh well, guess the message is loud & clear... someone doesn't want it here. maybe I'll ask Lensman why they closed it. :) . |
i think huge threads screw the board db up thats why they get closed
|
maybe threads can only get to a certain size before causing problems so they close them :2 cents:

yeah, then it would've been nice to let us know. lots of people have that thread bookmarked. but it was a damn good thread, no? In terms of page views, since the beginning of GFY: http://www.gfy.com/forumdisplay.php?...c&daysprune=-1 it ranks in the top 20 at #18, but if you weed out the contest threads, Paris Hilton sidekick threads, and Would you hit it... it ranks in the top 10 at around #7. Damn. If the MODS killed it because they thought it was a sales thread, then please bring it back and re-title it to: Recently SOLD Domains. Please add. :thumbsup instead of what it reads now: Recent Domain Sales. please add. http://www.gfy.com/it/341282-recent-domain-sales-please-add.html |

Basically I shut down that thread because it's been made very clear to me, not to allow threads to be endlessly bumped. That thread has been going on since August 2004.
Letting a thread go on endlessly does tend to create problems with vBulletin, and right now it's a problem that wasn't needed. The board is still taking quite a hit from "BaiDu", over 1M (1,007,333) page requests in the last 36-hours, and that's been keeping me busy enough. I don't have a problem with a monthly "domain thread", but I don't see the value of keeping it going forever in one thread. |

ok. thanks for the explanation. but the thread was not being BUMPED for the sake of being BUMPED... relevant content was being added. And the reason why it was in "one" thread was because the info was cohesive and people had it bookmarked, not just via vbulletin, but hard bookmarks... there in lies the value. The fact that it went on since August 2004 is testament to its strength and longevity. It was a business thread... and I for one am sad to see it killed off... not just because I started it, but for more important reasons. Your board, your decision. But thanks for the explanation. If you decide to resurrect it, let me know. I can guarantee I wasn't the only one who helped generate 30,000 page views for your board. The thread will be missed. anyone who enjoyed that thread and would like to see it again, email me. I'll just start up my personal blog and/or launch DomainNews.com - I'll make sure to update them several times a day. and don't worry MODS, neither one is a board... I'm not stupid enough to promote a board on GFY. if anyone wants to help be a contributor or reporter, email me: dev^(AT)^DomainNews^(.)^com . |

Laugh all you want, shouldn't you be busy protecting your "friend" NOFX's rep? Have you helped him dig his grave deeper today? doesn't matter if he ever gets banned from GFY or not, enough webmasters have blacklisted him & his sponsors because of, in his own words, "obvious" & "tasteless jokes". :upsidedow Your weak insults lacked any punch last time, go spend more time working on trying to be clever... moron. :1orglaugh . |
