New "Johnny Cash" Movie...

"Walk The Line" starring Joachim Phoenix... I grew up listening to Johnny Cash. Tough man who changed music history. I'm gonna be the first in line to see this. Any more Cash fans round these parts?

LiveDose 11-08-2005 06:40 PM

I can't wait to see that movie. Cash was a badass for real...

JuiceMonkey 11-08-2005 06:40 PM

I Loved the way he sang HURT and the video of his wife/life with it. It was a tear jerker. Johnny Cash Rocks

RevSand 11-08-2005 06:58 PM

I want to see it but I also want to hear how well J. Phoenix plays him... I have some questions how well he will pull it off and I would hate to leave it disappointed by that.

baddog 11-08-2005 07:04 PM

I hate it when I agree with you, but this is one movie I may even see before it hits DVD or HBO.

BV 11-08-2005 07:10 PM

Johny Cash was good peeps.

A few weeks ago (i think on History Channel) there was a good documentary on him. Had alot of home footage and rv footage of him travelling around playing at gigs, even in prisons,, visiting the house where he grew up etc etc.

Alot of behind the scenes stuff.
Seems like after each show, in the back stage, he would listen to other aspiring singers and give them advice and sometimes hook them up with auditions for the record producers.

I don't listen to country music now but every once and a while I like to kick back with some of the older stuff.

sherie 11-08-2005 07:35 PM

I can't wait to see it. We were just discussing it over dinner. I actually just grabbed a Jphnny Cash CD the other day. Man that guy rocked!

selena 11-08-2005 07:41 PM

I remember his music playing in my house when I was a little kid. I have always enjoyed it.

I've only just caught part of the trailer. It will be interesting to see how someone else plays him.

MikeVega 11-08-2005 07:45 PM

I really looking forward to this movie .... I'll go out and see that for sure ... Cash is the man .. :thumbsup

tristan_D 11-09-2005 04:30 AM

another movie on my "to watch" list

crockett 11-09-2005 04:52 AM

one of the first songs I can ever remember liking as a kid was "Ring of Fire"

I do wonder if they touch on his early career in the movie or if they clean it up.. Because he was quite the racist back then. He started out doing racist type songs.

candyflip 11-09-2005 05:24 AM

I used to work as a collector for the Hard Rock Cafe. His family was always trying to cash in on him even before he was dead.

Doesn't surprise me that there's a movie out within a year of his death.

I'm a fan of his music, I'll be checking it out. Can't be any worse than "Ray".

Screaming 11-09-2005 07:09 AM

I will defently be in line for this 1. He totaly kicked ass.

Holly 11-09-2005 07:15 AM

I like Cash okay, but I am 200% in love with Joaquin Phoenix. I think he's absolute perfection. Even though he doesn't sing, he does all his own vocals in this so I hope that turns out okay, lol. Cash was really tall and lanky so I'm not sure how that will come off either, since Phoenix isn't.

Either way, it doesn't matter to me. I'd watch him stand in line at the grocery store for two hours if someone had it on tape. :liebe028:

dirtysouth 11-09-2005 08:11 AM

When The Man Comes Around is my all time fav. That shit is deeeep.

Johnny Cash brought some of what would later become the FTW hardcore punk attitude into country music way back then. A true rebel who pushed boundaries. I'd love to see this movie when it is released here in the PI.

Greg B 11-19-2005 01:38 AM

THIS MOVIE IS FUCKING AWESOME!!!!

I won't spoil it, but EVERYBODY should see this movie!

It's a movie about falling in and out of love.

It taught me a big lesson about people you admire and that they're not gonna be around forever so you should let them know you care while you have the chance.

Johnny and June were like a big warm blanket that you could always depend on. Grew up on their music and figured one day I would finally meet them. Got so tied up fightin' I didn't take the time to go to a concert. I really regret that now.

I can't say more except the theatre was PACKED. First time in years I almost whipped people's asses for a good seat.

Just AWESOME!

mikesinner 11-19-2005 01:45 AM

Unfortunatly I didn't get a chance to appreciate his work while he lived, but I will see the film as a tribute to his life as everyone should

LiveDose 11-19-2005 01:51 AM

Definitely going to catch it this weekend.

Vitasoy 11-19-2005 04:30 AM

It should have gotten pretty darn good reviews! Should be getting awesome reviews!

It's really a well made film that doesn't go into the dirty, gritty stuff but focuses on the challenges he had to overcome.

You will laugh, cry, cheer out loud at this movie at the least.

sickkittens 11-19-2005 12:26 PM

Saw it last night. Good stuff. The beginning was a little slow and then it got going. JC is one of my favs.

Hey, any movie that starts with pickin' cotton and singing hymns and drinkin' is gonna be hot.

Hard_Wil 11-19-2005 03:09 PM

I'd have to agree...

I agree.. this was a great movie.

Cash was way before my time, so I really didn't know much about his story (I had no idea he toured with Jerry Lee Lewis and Elvis).

Anyway, this movie really made a fan out of me, and I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys his music.

Greg B 11-19-2005 03:19 PM

You can say that again Will.

I grew up on Cash. Matter of fact I wore black for 6 years straight when I was in my 20's and still do occasionally. Now I'm homesick.

Furious_Female 11-19-2005 03:20 PM

I like Johnny Cash's music... grew up listening to it. I can't wait to see the movie, it looks awesome!

xclusive 11-19-2005 03:29 PM

Just saw it! GREAT MOVIE! i grew up on johnny cash....i think my dad wore out his copy of folsam prison blues....

adultchica 11-19-2005 03:46 PM

This is one movie that I can't wait to see. Johnny Cash was awesome. Believe it or not, my great grandmother is still alive 86 years old and she looooooooves Johnny cash. She was asking if some of us could take her to see the movie. How can we pass that up?

Plus doesn't hurt that Joaquin Phoenix is hot (I know some women don't think so) and I would like to see Reese Witherspoon in a serious role like this and not a dumb blonde.

SykkBoy 11-19-2005 06:13 PM

I'm borderline obsessive about Johnny Cash and can't wait to see the movie...
despite my love for all thigns heavy in music, Johnny cash and some of those old school shitkickers are ina league of their own...

BigCashCrew 11-19-2005 06:15 PM

I like Johnny Cash and I can't wait to see the movie. I'll have to drag my fiance to see it with me :)

Oh! You MUST bring your great grandmother!!!! She will absolutely LOVE this movie!!! You can actually bring someone of any age because there's nothing you have to explain. It's really a family movie of historic value! Sort of like movies Disney should have made a long time ago. Beautiful cinematography and photography too! Great makeup, costumes, old classic cars. I have to go see it again and again cause waiting for the DVD to come out will be torture no-end! I am sooooo homesick cause I know everyone back home piled into anything that could roll and made a bee line to the theatre and are talking about this movie allll day and night.

Johnny Cash sure loved June. That's a true love story if ever there was one.

je_rome 11-20-2005 09:49 PM

I saw Joaquin Phoenix on Conan feew days ago and he was promoting this movie. it looks pretty interesting

Downtime 11-20-2005 09:50 PM

i got no interest in seeing it

Maxy 11-21-2005 01:20 PM

Good Flick. Had Cash stuck in my head all the next day. Witherspoon didn't fuck it up.
