The world's greatest search engine experienced a bit of an outage recently, and tremors were felt throughout the blogosphere.
Sometime between November 2nd and 3rd, the Google server farm became inaccessible. Gmail, Blogger, and Google search returned 404 results to astonished surfers. Frantic traceroutes to Google datacenters scrolled "Request timed out" endlessly.
But that's not the scariest part of this story. Oh no. The worst thing that happened?
AdSense WAS UNAVAILABLE!!!!!!!! Heavens above, think of the CLICKS!
Commenters on the topic posting at Digg.com reported the outage from many strange and foreign lands: Australia. New Zealand. Peru. Toronto. California (but someone from Los Angeles had no problem getting there.)
What could this mean? Another fight between peering companies? Did we just get switched from the Internet to the GoogleNet?
Whatever it was, the outage didn't last long. All is well with the world, and AdSense blocks everywhere have returned to normal. Nothing to see here, move along.
