not for me it wasn't....i actually have a gmail app on my local machine that tells me when i have new mail and when is down...it is pinged once every 3 minutes, and i am not showing one bit of downtime ever

it could have been a router out somewhere in your line of site to google, but google was not down

pornguy 11-08-2005 10:39 PM

I have tried to get to them a few times, and they were down. The best one was when MSN was down for 45min.

Jace 11-08-2005 10:41 PM

did you all ever stop to think a router could be out somewhere that blocks access?

ffmihai 11-08-2005 10:42 PM

working very fast

GweedZilla 11-08-2005 10:45 PM

The world's greatest search engine experienced a bit of an outage recently, and tremors were felt throughout the blogosphere.

Sometime between November 2nd and 3rd, the Google server farm became inaccessible. Gmail, Blogger, and Google search returned 404 results to astonished surfers. Frantic traceroutes to Google datacenters scrolled "Request timed out" endlessly.

But that's not the scariest part of this story. Oh no. The worst thing that happened?

AdSense WAS UNAVAILABLE!!!!!!!! Heavens above, think of the CLICKS!

Commenters on the topic posting at Digg.com reported the outage from many strange and foreign lands: Australia. New Zealand. Peru. Toronto. California (but someone from Los Angeles had no problem getting there.)

What could this mean? Another fight between peering companies? Did we just get switched from the Internet to the GoogleNet?

Whatever it was, the outage didn't last long. All is well with the world, and AdSense blocks everywhere have returned to normal. Nothing to see here, move along.

Maybe only in certain locations, but they're never "completely down". Google is comprised of 1000's of servers and hundreds of networks.
